In March, we announced a few exciting updates to our Angler’s Choice Award. If you missed it, here’s what you can expect:

  • You’ll be able to win the award more often than before – every three months;
  • If you win, all your listings will get the recognition they deserve and display an Angler’s Choice badge;
  • Thanks to your feedback, we’ve switched from the realization rate to reliability score, which means you have full control over your chances of winning.

You can now also track your progress and see how close you are to getting the award. The next winners will be announced on October 1, so let’s see what you can do over the next few months to increase your chances at winning…

What are the new requirements?

How can I win?

There are a number of steps you can take to make sure you’re on the way to hitting the requirements above:

  • Boost your review score and get 10 verified reviews. Making a personal connection with your customers, taking lots of photos, personalizing your trips, and going the extra mile all have a big impact and are more likely to encourage your customers to leave you a review. Why not follow the advice of captains who get the most reviews?
  • Keep your booking response rate at 98% or above and responding within 24 hours. This has a big effect on keeping customers happy. Activating Instant Book automatically takes care of this, as your customers will be able to confirm their trip with you immediately. Already have Instant Book activated? Why not lower your notice period? We send the most bookings to captains with a notice period of 24 hours.
  • Keep your reliability score at 98%. Activating Instant Book helps achieve this, but it’s not the only way. Updating your calendar frequently, even daily if possible, helps you avoid double bookings and having to cancel trips. If you use multiple calendars to track your bookings, keep on top of your FishingBooker trips by adding them to your Google calendar.
  • Finally, you can let customers know that you’re a legitimate business. We know how important it is to you that we work with legitimate captains, which is why only fully verified captains are eligible for the Angler’s Choice Award. You can manage all your documents easily on your Credentials Dashboard, and we’ll send you a notification whenever a document is about to expire.

How can I track my progress?

Tracking your progress towards the new award is easy with the updated progress tracker. It lets you keep tabs on how your business is performing overall, as well as how close you are to winning the award. Check out how you’re doing right now!

Show it off to all your customers

Won the Angler’s Choice Award and want to show it off? You can add the widget to your website. This lets customers know you run outstanding fishing trips, with FishingBooker and beyond.

Fishingbooker still has some work to do to score the reliability rate accurately . I had anglers choice for some time and then lost it when last years weather and covid forced some cancellations / declines . We cannot manage our calendar to account for weather forecasts. The new calc method says it doesn’t penalize for weather anymore , but apparently it does still penalize for weather cancels in the past . My score has stayed the same and even dropped this year after running trips. My understanding is that a rolling average is used going back 256 days. I would suggest using a shorter time frame while you transition from the “ get penalized for weather “ data is still included. If weather no longer penalizes Fishingbooker still has some work to do to score the reliability rate accurately . Hi Captain Steve,

    Thanks for your comment! We understand that you can’t control the weather. This is why weather cancellations don’t impact any captain’s reliability score negatively. The biggest difference is that we’re now applying the reliability score to past performances, not just the future, and will be looking at the previous 365 days in order to make things more fair for every captain.

    These new regulations will come into effect in October, which is the first time we’ll release the award with the new requirements. After that, we’ll reset the 365 day count every 3 months, and Angler’s Choice will be awarded on a quarterly basis. This makes things more fair for captains who have had to run fewer trips because of bad weather or other unpredictable factors. It also means that the data we use is more accurate, and you’ll be able to win the award more often.

    I hope this helps shine a light on how Angler’s Choice will work going forward. If you have any other questions, please let us know – we’re here to help.

    Tight lines,

    Katie

I hate the rateing by the people I ask them if there’s any I can do or change they say everything’s good and then a 4 rateing that’s not right . So something needs to change on that . To get the anglers choice award .

    Hi Gabriel,

    Thanks for your feedback about how the award works. We agree that it’s much better for both captains and customers to address any issues or areas you could potentially improve in person! However, we know that this isn’t always how things work, which is why we’ve set the review score as 4.8 rather than 5.0. We know that sometimes things on the water just don’t go as planned and can be out of your control.

    I checked out your listing with us and noticed that you have a lot of 5-star reviews from happy customers. To continue bringing in these reviews, why not check out our top tips from captains that always get a review?

    You can also set customer expectations ahead of time by reaching out to them via our Instant Messaging service and seeing if they have any questions or special requests. Rather than having to wait until after the trip to see if there’s something the customer wished you could’ve done better, you can get ahead of any concerns they might have and plan for them before you head out on the water.

    Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us!

    Tight lines,
    Katie
