That’s why a good record of committing to the requests we send you will set you up to succeed in a big way. The question is, how exactly do successful trips help your listing?

They Improve Your Reliability Score

The reliability score is a really important part of how we promote and rank listings in search results. We want to recognize captains who stick to their commitments to customers by taking them fishing when the conditions allow.

Having a trip declined or canceled because of an inaccurate calendar provides a bad experience for customers. That’s why your reliability score drops if you have a long history of not being able to take people fishing due to things like getting double booked.

💡It’s important to know that the reliability score is a new name for an old concept. We always tracked the reasons behind canceled and declined trips to form our rankings, we just didn’t give it a name. This, understandably, made the reliability score easily confused with the realization rate.

To learn more about the reliability score and how it affects your listing’s ranking, check out our in-depth article about ranking factors.

They Boost Your Realization Rate

The realization rate is the percentage of your total bookings that actually become trips. It works pretty simply: whenever a trip goes ahead, it goes up. Whenever it gets canceled or declined, it goes down.

While the realization rate doesn’t influence your position in the rankings, it is an important indicator of how committed you are to completing your trips. In the past, it even served as one of the Angler’s Choice award criteria.

Nowadays, however, it’s your reliability score instead that’s used as one of the benchmarks that determine who wins the award. This way, trip cancellations that were out of your control, such as those due to bad weather, bear no influence on whether you’ll ultimately win Angler’s Choice.

Still, the realization rate is there to help you track how many potential customers end up being able to fish with you. The more this happens, the more return customers and reviews you’re likely to get, and the stronger your business!

How to Boost Your Realization Rate and Keep Your Customers

If you’ve ever made an online purchase, we’re guessing that getting what you ordered was the main thing you wanted. Today I’ll be teaching you how to update your calendar. It’s super simple – here’s how it works. The number one way to be successful on FishingBooker is to keep your calendar up to date.

On the one hand, accepting and running trips increases your visibility on FishingBooker by providing you with a ranking boost. On the other hand, declining or canceling trips because you’re already booked decreases your ranking and your chance to get more bookings. That’s why it’s important to regularly update your calendar, so we only send you trips when you’re available. This will help ensure you have the best chance to rank well, get more bookings, and, most importantly, make your customers happy.

When updating your calendar, you can choose to update a single date, individual trips, multiple dates, or multiple listings. Let’s take a look: To close an entire day, click on the date you want to block. Click “Edit” then choose “Blocked” and “Save.” Fully closed dates will appear red on your calendar.

If you only want to run specific trips on a certain day, you can choose the Custom Edit option For example, if you want to offer only Full Day Trips on August 25th, click on the date, then choose Custom. Block all trips except the Full Day Trips. Customers will still be able to find your listing when searching for August 25th; However, only Full Day trips will appear as available. This option comes in handy when you only want to run a particular type of trip, such as inshore trips, or if you want to block a specific part of the day, such as all AM trips or all PM trips.

Partially closed dates will appear yellow on your calendar. To update multiple dates, individually click on all the dates that you wish to update. Once you've selected all your desired dates, click "Edit." Click “Blocked” and then save the changes.

Please note that when updating more than one date at a time, you can only block full days, not specific trips. You can also add notes to your calendar to save information that will help you prepare for your trip. Customers can’t see your notes – they are only visible to you. This makes them the perfect place to store reminders.

To add a note, select the desired date, click on “Edit” and then select the “Add note” option in the upper right corner. Once you’ve added your note, go ahead and click “Save” to save changes. Dates with saved notes will have a grey note icon in the right hand corner. If you have 2 or more published listings on FishingBooker, our Multicalendar tool lets you simultaneously update your availability across all your listings.

This feature is currently only available on desktop. Are there any dates you can't fish this month? Block them in your calendar today and get ready to take your new customers on the water.

</wistia-player>

We can’t stress this enough. Regularly updating your calendar will make the biggest difference to your listing’s success. Awesome pictures will do you little good if you’re forced to decline trips due to inaccurate availability.

Did you know that the most successful captains on FishingBooker update their calendars frequently? In the off-season, that’s usually two or three times per week. During the high season, it’s best to update your calendar daily, as bookings can come in at any time.

Thankfully, doing so takes no time at all. With just a few taps, you can set your availability right on your app. You then contact your mechanic to make an appointment.

Once you learn how long your boat will be out of the water, you take a moment to readjust your availability. And today, I'll try to answer some commonly asked questions about our most popular feature, Instant Book.

FishingBooker offers two options for customers to book their trip. One way is for customers to request a date and wait for your response. The other is by booking an available date and having it confirmed instantly, which is Instant Book. By now, almost seventy percent of all of our bookings worldwide come through the Instant Book option. So we're here today to talk about what this feature is and what it can do for you.

Instant Book is a simple and convenient feature that enables bookings to be processed swiftly and easily without having to be approved manually, as long as the requested date is open in your calendar. The moment a customer books, you'll immediately receive their contact details so that you can get in touch and set expectations early on.

As soon as you've enabled instant book, all you have to do is keep your calendar up to date through the Captain app and you'll no longer have to worry about rejecting booking requests or canceling them because of double bookings.

Now, from providing a smooth booking experience for both you and the customer, activating Instant Book brings you some additional benefits. Let's take a look at them. It gives your listing a ranking boost and a much higher chance of getting booked. On average, listings with Instant Book get up to 3x more bookings compared to a regular listing. Instant Book automatically processes bookings while providing you with customer contact details.

This way, you spend more time fishing and less time managing booking requests. And last but not least, it's completely free of charge.

How do you enable Instant Book? First, log in to your FishingBooker account and click on the Business tab.

Choose listings and go to the listing you wish to set up for.

Then, go to the availability section of that listing and Instant Book settings will be at the top of the page.

You can enable or disable Instant Book.

You can also decide how far in advance you'd like customers to be able to book. So, if you don't want to accept instant bookings, say for the following day, we recommend that you start with the three days advance notice and gradually move towards no advance period.

When setting your advance notice, pay attention to the little box at the bottom.

If you check this box, customers can still request to book trips within your advance notice period, but you will be asked to accept or decline the request.

Leave the box unchecked and you will only get instant bookings for trips that are outside of your advance notice period.

A common question we get regarding the instant book feature is

What happens if I cancel a trip? Having this feature requires a degree of trust, as customers count on you to be available on the dates that you advertise as open.

Every trip you cancel that was booked through Instant Book will result in a rankings drop. After three cancellations, the Instant Book feature will be turned off. The best way to avoid this is to keep your calendar up to date. We understand that there are some things you simply have no control over. So any cancellations due to bad or unsafe weather or due to proven extenuating circumstances will not be penalized.

To sum it up, Instant Book is ultimately the most effective way to boost your business and to get more bookings on FishingBooker.

All you have to do is invest a few minutes of your time to update your calendar while Instant Book will take care of the rest. If you'd like to see how it works first hand, go to your profile and give it a try.

</wistia-player>

Instant Book is one of our most popular features, and for good reason.
