Alabama&#039;s reefs are home to an incredible number of these fish, and Orange Beach is one of the top spots to land one. The town is therefore known as the red snapper capital of the world. Just keep in mind that red snapper season in Alabama usually only runs between June and July.\r\n\r\nThese dates may vary year to year, so be sure to plan your trip accordingly and always double check before you head out.\r\n\r\nAnother local favorite you&#039;ll find lurking around offshore reefs and oil rigs is greater amberjack. They can reach huge sizes in these waters, sometimes even exceeding 150 pounds, and they provide an excellent fight, tiring out even the most skilled anglers. They&#039;re also subject to strict seasons, typically being closed throughout the summer before opening up again in fall.\r\n\r\nBeautiful mahi mahi are another species you can catch while deep sea fishing and Orange Beach. These colorful creatures visit the area during summer and you can often find them by searching for weed lines and floating debris offshore. They&#039;re acrobatic leaps and relatively low endurance. Make them an excellent catch among beginners.\r\n\r\nThey&#039;re also absolutely delicious. Whether you cook them, grill them, or just eat them as sashimi.\r\n\r\nOf course, the list of top Orange Beach targets wouldn&#039;t be complete without mentioning tuna. The most common types in these waters are yellowfin and black thin, and the hottest action takes place around oil rigs and deep federal waters.\r\n\r\nTuna fishing is hot. Year round, however, yellowfin fishing peaks in spring and fall. While the best times to go out there, black then are fall and winter. The deep sea action generally starts around the nine mile mark when you reach a reef zone called the trolling corridor. Trolling here in the summer will often see you going after king mackerel while bottom fishing will put you on the likes of snapper, grouper and other deep dwelling fish. The nipple is the closest one sitting on the 100 Fathom Curve where you can fish the 600 foot deep drop off. However, you won&rsquo;t always be able to keep them (more on that later on).&nbsp;<\/p><p>The good news is that, even when Red Snapper season is closed, some other exciting and delicious Snappers are available. Lane, White, and Vermillion Snapper are all in abundance here. But when the season hits, you won&#8217;t need to go so far out. <\/p><p>If you are out in the serious deep waters, you&rsquo;ll always have the chance of landing these beauties. Mahi Mahi peak from spring through fall but are available offshore year-round. Meanwhile, different Tuna species are on offer at different times of the year. Marlin and Sailfish are two of those creatures. These long-billed, dazzling fish are the epitome of big game fishing, and an Orange Beach deep sea fishing trip gives you a very good chance at landing one &ndash; or at least trying.<\/p><p>Blue and White Marlin, along with Sailfish, are available in deep waters in the summer months. But beware. All three are huge and will do whatever they can to get off the end of your line. They&rsquo;ll all try to cut through your line with their bills, while Marlin will even leap out of the water. When fishing the reefs and rigs, there&rsquo;s also a good chance of oversized Kingfish, Barracuda, and much more. If you&rsquo;re looking for those delicious Tuna and Mahi Mahi fillets, then you&rsquo;ll probably come across tough-fighting Wahoo.<\/p><p>However, some really rare rewards can be found in the serious deep. When the waters plummet to over 1,000 feet, deep dropping is the name of the game. Along with some of the most elusive Groupers, you can get your hands on some of the most tasty fish in the ocean. We&rsquo;re talking about Tilefish and Swordfish.
