The two main fish species you’ll hunt for in Lake Pepin are Walleye<\/strong> and Smallmouth<\/strong> Bass<\/strong>. However, there are also Sauger<\/strong> and Northern<\/strong> Pike<\/strong>, and a variety of Panfish<\/strong> lurking about.<\/p>

After you’re done fishing, you can enjoy a stroll in Lake City<\/a>, visit its farmer’s market, and go shopping and dining. The Columbia River<\/a> is one of the best fishing spots in the entire Pacific Northwest around Labor Day. And we’re not just saying this to make up the numbers – it’s due to the fact that some of its best sections are open to anglers during the holiday! By this, we mean predominantly the famous Buoy 10 fishery, the portion of the river around Portland, and the waters above Bonneville Dam.<\/p>

So if you’ve ever wanted a shot at battling tough-fighting Chinook<\/strong> and<\/strong> Coho<\/strong> Salmon<\/strong>, now’s the moment. Steelhead<\/strong> and Sturgeon<\/strong> may also bite while you’re out there, but get ready to practice catch and release when it comes to those.<\/p>

To fish around Buoy 10, your best bet is to head to Astoria<\/strong><\/a> in Oregon or Ilwaco<\/strong> if you want to launch from Washington. Further upriver, Portland<\/strong><\/a> is an excellent starting point that’ll give you access to both the Columbia River and the Willamette, which also boasts stellar angling. Above Bonneville Dam, guides will launch from small cities such as Cascade<\/strong> Locks<\/strong>, Stevenson<\/strong>, Hood<\/strong> River<\/strong>, and The<\/strong> Dalles<\/strong>.<\/p>
