Thomcat Fishing Charters lets you explore the riches of New Zealand’s fisheries. From October to June you can unwind aboard a spacious vessel, sample the local fish, and enjoy the spectacular view. These trips are meant for anglers of all levels of experience. Families with kids, novice anglers, and hardcore fishers – there’s something here for everyone.
You will be fishing aboard Thomcat, a 42’ Allan Wright catamaran. The boat is powered by twin 300 HP Yanmar engines and is fitted with navigational electronics to put you on track. The vessel features two toilets, a flybridge, a fighting chair, plenty of seating space, kitchen, salon. It has enough room for up to 15 anglers on day trips and can accommodate up to eight anglers on overnight trips. Onboard, you will find a multimedia system, outriggers, an ice box, live well, and Penn fishing gear which will be at your disposal during the trip.
These gulfs and reefs are teeming with fish. You will explore numerous reefs and islands and target species such as Snapper, Gurnard, King Fish, Kahawai, and Hapuka (in season). The boat is fast and reliable and you will be fishing within 30 to 45 minutes of departure, exploring the fisheries scattered between 3 and 10 miles offshore.
When packing for the trip, remember to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a camera, as well as some food and drinks. You don’t need a fishing license, and the skipper will provide all the fishing gear at $20 per rod and $20 for bait per person.
