About the Captain

Matt Smith
Paihia, New Zealand
Member since October 2014
Matt grew up in Russell and started fishing off the Russell Wharf when he started walking. He caught his first Marlin at the ago of just 6! He then started working full time on the deck at 15 on big game fishing boats, which took him all over the world Marlin fishing. MAtt upgraded to a Captain at the age of 18 on and off on sportsfishing boats. He missed leaving his family/kids behind when he went fishing, so started driving Anglers Anonymous in 2015 which he enjoyed so much. Matt and his wife Christa bought the business in August of 2016. Matt has not only knowledge and experience with fishing, but a passion for his clients to actually catch fish. He also holds the world record Kingfish 37.8kgs on 6kg line.

Great day on the water. King fish caught as the first bait went over board which was fabulous fun to bring in. Moved to a second site and the snapper started to bite and they were super fun to reel in. Matt and Ross were very friendly and gave very helpful instruction.  Awesome boat to have picked!!!!
