Alaskan Widespread Fishing Adventures

Mindy and Reubin Payne are long-time professional guides on the Kenai Peninsula. Mindy’s father is a long time guide in Alaska so Mindy grew up in the business, bought her first boat and started guiding at 22 years old.

Reubin hitchhiked to Alaska as a college student 29 years ago and fell in love with the great state and the fishing opportunities! He guided for an upscale lodge on the Cook Inlet where he learned the fishery, the business, and the community. He started his own business in 2001 after 9 years of living and guiding on the Kenai Peninsula. Now after guiding Alaska for over 25 years, he still loves to fish!

Mindy, Reubin, and their Alaskan Widespread Fishing Adventures offer exciting full-day trips for Salmon, Rockfish, Lingcod, and Halibut on the Cook Inlet. You will be fishing aboard their 32’ Kofler boat, fresh on the water in 2010. This spacious vessel can cruise at a top speed of 45 knots thanks to its twin 250 Suzuki engines. There is plenty of room aboard for up to 6 anglers to fish in comfort and style.

The boat is outfitted with modern navigational and fishfinding electronics to build up a clear image of where the fish are hiding. There is also an ice-box to keep the catch fresh during the day.

All trips with Mindy and Reubin come inclusive with gear, tackle, bait, lures, and fly fishing equipment if needed. Your fish will also be cleaned by the crew at the end of your adventure. The only thing that is missing is you!

These long-range trips take you into seldom fished waters. We target huge world class Lingcod and anything and everything in the area. We may be reeling up Lingcod on one rod and Yelloweye or Salmon may be stalking your bait on another rod, at the same time. These trips are not for the first time fishermen. We encourage folks to plan on a full day plus a couple of hours. These trips have amazing marine mammal viewing opportunities! We can not fish for Halibut on these long-range fishing trips.

Halibut trips take place on the Cook Inlet. Cook Inlet tides are some of the strongest tides on the planet, reaching 30 feet of movement. We plan every trip based on the tide time and size. These adventures often include amazing wildlife viewing, beautiful scenery, and of course pounds and pounds of amazingly delicious Halibut fillets! Our vessel holds up to 6 fishermen and trips can last up to 8 hours. Halibut fishing will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in 2022.

I began fishing at a very young age. I grew up on a lake near the Chattahoochee River in central GA. I spent all my free hours fishing! I don't know why I was so attracted to fishing, but from the first time I had a fishing rod in my hands, I was hooked! I hitch-hiked up the Alcan Highway to Alaska with some friends my junior year in college. I went home, graduated and went to a fishing show with a resume in my hand seeking a job in the fishing industry. I met a lodge owner that hired me as a "beach hand" for his upscale lodge on the Cook Inlet in South Central Alaska. We worked hard every morning and fished hard every afternoon. I guided for the lodge the following 9 years, then started my own guide business in 2001. I met Mindy on the Kasilof River in 2004 and we got married and joined our fishing companies in 2008. I feel incredibly blessed to be part of such an amazing fishery in such an amazing place.
