Salsa - 27’ Escapade in Tamarindo

On The Beach In Front Of "El P…
Tamarindo GU, Costa Rica

Whatever your angling ambitions might be, Tamarindo Sportfishing will help you find your match. Complete novice to master anglers, everyone is welcome to join in the adventure.

Make a great catch possible aboard the ‘Salsa,’ a 27’ Escapade. You can expect your lines to be in the water fast, especially with a fast 220 HP Cummins Diesel engine. The Salsa has a walk around cuddy cabin with a V-berth and a head inside – everything you need for a day on the water.

She has a comfortable 10’ beam, plenty of generous shade, a fighting chair, top-notch electronics to build up a clear image of where the fish are hiding, and professional gear. It is the ‘no-frills boat for the angler on a budget’ but with Shimano and Penn International fishing gear.

The Salsa is captained by Leo Rosales, a local captain with over 15 years of experience. His English skills are limited, but he will gladly show you the best of both worlds: fish the inshore waters or head further out and explore the grounds beyond the Continental Shelf.

Hone your casting skills and grow as an angler. Go for sailfish, marlin, grouper, snapper, tuna, and many other species that call these waters home.

The crew of Tamarindo Sportfishing believes that hook retrieval is the ultimate form of catch and release. They are pioneers when it comes down to the conservations of the big game fish in the Pacific. They will be happy to fillet your dinner and help you safely release all billfish and roosterfish into the water.

Grew up in Miami, started fishing as a toddler! Fished and surfed all through high school and college. I moved to Costa Rica in 1974. Saw the incredible fishing here and grew my business from one small boat to now a fleet of 3 with local bilingual captains. After fishing here for 40 years, I am still excited about sharing the experience with anglers from all over the world and giving them the trip of a lifetime.

Bought a half day we were eager for billfish, mahi or rooster.  Randy talked us into a full day to increase our odds of landing bills.  9 hours and never touched a rod. Not one fish, but that’s fishing sometimes it cost me a day in CR and $900. But here is why that trip is terrible.  We went with Randy thinking we were getting an English speaking captain and we got Leo instead.  Throughout the whole trip we were wondering what was going on, hoping to receive some knowledge or offering a change in strategies to see some action.  After the 6.5 hour mark I asked “capitan leo” if we could try for mahi or rooster in which he replied “no se” these people don’t care about your experience, just your money. It’s not Randy’s fault, tamarindo is a hit or miss for fishing.  It’s a surfers town but anyone will take your money for any activity here and you can’t blame them for trying to make a living.  Do yourself a favor and lower your expectations.

Hi Ali, thank you for writing. I am sorry your fishing experience was below par.
The bill fishing had been good on the days prior to your trip and since you wanted to target bill fish, I suggested doing a full day. Unfortunately, on that day the fish that were raised were not biting. Captain Leo’s English skills are limited. While fishing offshore for bill fish we often get dorado bites and he did put out a variety of lures, but the dorado did not bite either. Roosterfish would have been a different area and technique. Depending on what the time of day was, where you were and what the water in the shoreline looked like, he made the decision to stick it out offshore. I wish he had been able to communicate that and I completely understand how disappointed you are.
We do care very much about your experience, in fact, after your safety it is what is most important to us. We can’t replace your day, but we would like to send you a gift card. Please send us a note from our web form with your email address and we’ll take care of it.

Captain Leo was great! We told him we wanted some Mahi and he put us on them! He did a great job getting us on the fish and keeping the lines out! Thanks for the great time, Leo!
