I wouldn’t say I’m an expert fly-fisherman, but I know how. I was not sure what quality of a charter I would get just booking online without talking to anyone on the phone, but it was a last minute decision to go, and this was all I found available out of Hopkins for that day. I was in Belize on family business in a different part of the country. I was not disappointed.  These men clearly had experience as about 90% of the time they saw the fish before I did. And many times I never saw the fish, but simply casted and retrieved my fly according to their direction. I caught my first bonefish on the fly this way.  I never saw the fish until he was hooked! Pound for pound, that might be the hardest fighting fish I have ever dealt with. I didn’t get a Belizean grand slam (snook, bonefish, permit, and tarpon) but we did see each species, even though I don’t think it was the high season for all of the fish. (late Nov.)  I started fly fishing at about age 13, and always dreamed of a tropical saltwater flats fishing trip. During my 20’s and 30’s I didn’t fish much, and now, in my early 40’s I’ve picked fly fishing back up and this trip came together fulfilling a 30 year old dream. I had a blast, and would readily go again with these guys if I am back in Belize and have the opportunity. It was a very exciting way of fishing. We were tracking, stalking, and hunting the fish, not just blind casting “hoping for a bite”. I would say though, that if you want to fish with a spinning reel, you’ll need to make that clear up front, they had a spinning reel, but clearly were set up for fly fishing, which is what I wanted, so it worked for me!!
