Our completely bay-fishing-first-timer family of four is so lucky to have chartered with Captain Ruben! He is so patient, professional, and kind. It was great talking Spurs bball with him—Go Spurs Go! He helped our teenagers learn, and helped us adults, too. He kept our boat moving when things slowed down and took us all the way out to the huts. We saw pink flamingoes, caught a bizarre toadfish, and lots of catfish. The real excitement was catching a couple of beautiful speckled trout! He set up baited rods and kept our lines for casting ready to go with live bait fish and also out-of-the-freezer shrimp coated with garlic salt since the live shrimp weren’t available (that’s what seemed to bring the most hits of any portion of the day). We also used “popping” lures and artificial lures, too—we learned a ton. His boat is meticulously kept and very comfortable and more than roomy enough for the four of us. All our equipment was great. For our usually loud and talkative bunch, we found ourselves just blissing out on this beautiful morning and peacefully spending the day enjoying being out on the water and having a great time learning to fish in the bay. We would charter with Captain Ruben again in a heartbeat—loved it!

We had an outstanding time. The Captain was very patient and assisted us throughout the experience. He was so knowledgeable of the areas to fish and often switched out our baits depending on what we were fishing for.
The Captain also cleaned our kept fish and suggested we take them to a local restaurant to be cooked; it doesn’t get fresher than that! 10/10

We really enjoyed our trip with Capt. Reuben. We booked a family trip and had three young kids fishing. Capt Reuben was patient and worked his tail off to make sure we not only had a great time but caught fish. He’s a top notch guide and I would highly recommend booking a trip with him. I will definitely fish with him again.

Have chartered Rueban many times, on our family vacations to South Padre.  While we are not experienced anglers, Rueban is extremely patient, kind and very knowledgeable. Even on slow days, he never stops working and has always put us on fish and sent us home with dinner.  We would never charter with anyone else!
