The First Stage - X Charters
Captain Tim Lane runs fishing and diving charters on the First Stage out of Daytona Beach, FL. Time is an experienced local captain, who has been fishing these waters for over 30 years, and has his 100-ton Master Captain’s License. He runs all of our fishing charters.
The First Stage, our offshore vessel, a 36’ Scarab SuperSport center console, is equipped for trolling or bottom fishing. The center console design has lots of space for bottom fishing on the many natural and artificial reefs Daytona has to offer.
Because of the high speed of the vessel, we can go to wherever the fish are biting, without wasting your valuable time on the water. Don’t forget, this will give you a chance to reach fishing grounds before others and save some extra time for fishing.
X Charters are located in Daytona Beach, Florida. With experienced crew and great equipment, you’ll be catching fish in matter of minutes. We take pride of our equipment and use only the best! Penn and Shimano are our choice!
If you are looking for a fishing experience, we believe you found the right choice. Charter captains normally set your hook and tell you to reel in when the fish gets close. We teach you how to do it yourself, gaff the fish and experience real fishing!
Come with X Charters aboard The First Stage and you won’t regret it!

Went fishing on March 9, 2017
Wind conditions prior to the day we fished hadn’t been good. I think that had a lot to do with the poor water clarity and our lack of success in the areas we fished. Really has two disappointments on the trip. The biggest being that during my conversations with X Charters, I expressed that we wanted to fish for sailfish, mahi-mahi, wahoo type fish, with the understanding that we would need to get to the Gulf Stream at least 20-25 miles offshore to do so. X Charters said that was what we would do. When I spoke with Captain Tim prior to our departure, he basically said none of those fish were around, and that we would be fishing the reef areas closer in. I will say that the crew did their best to catch fish on the reefs. I also specifically booked a boat that said it had bathroom facilities on board. This boat had a toilet seat on a bucket. Our wives were not at all happy about that. If I book a charter again, I will make sure the booking agent and boat Captain are in the same page on what’s expected. Expensive learning experience!
