Are you ready for an offshore trip like no other? Then join Salty Confusion Charters today for a trip you’ll never forget fishing in Johns Pass. Captain Bob Poteshman is looking forward to welcoming you on board and teaching you the tricks of the trade.

Hop on board his 36’ long and 14’ wide Seahawk Mega fishing vessel.  Air-conditioned and powered by a custom generator, comfort is a priority! We are ready to take up to 6 anglers fishing offshore. With twin 230 HP Yanmar inboard diesel engines that are completely new, this boat will get you to the fishing grounds before you know it. On board, all safety equipment is provided so you can fish with peace of mind. There is a large bathroom (marine head) as well, which makes it pleasant for any fisherman. The navigation equipment on board will help you stay on top of the fish throughout your trip.

The fish you’ll be targeting will depend on which trip you choose. Novices should choose the shorter trips, which will head out 20 miles, compared to the longer trips for experienced anglers that will take you 50 miles or more from shore. Species include Red Snapper, Vermilion Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Gag Grouper, Black Seabass, Kingfish, Amberjack, Gray Triggerfish, and more.

You’ll be using top-quality rods and reels on these trips (no extra charges for equipment) from Daiwa, Penn, Shakespeare, Shimano, and Garcia. This gear won’t let you down when reeling in your trophy catch. Live bait will be prepared before the trip to give you maximum time to fish. The fishing license for the day is also included in the price.

Please bring along plenty of food and drink – you’ll need to keep your energy up. After the trip, your haul can be filleted by the captain. Please note, tips are not included in the trip price.

    This is a 6-hour charter. We depart at 5:30 a.m. and we return at 11:30 a.m. Sometimes we can customize the start time but we need to discuss this in advance. We go up to 18 miles offshore and fish for a variety of bottom fish and sometimes we troll for Mackerel.

    This trip will see you ride out from 15 to 25 miles from shore. Due to the distance, fishing will begin after 1 1/2 - 2 hours. You'll be targeting Amberjack, Grouper, and Snapper. All gear and tackle for the day are provided, as well as the fishing license for all anglers on board. Please bring along your own food and drink.

    This is the captain's most popular trip. He typically runs from 20-40 miles offshore and this trip provides a good opportunity to land some great Gulf of Mexico fish. This 10-hour trip begins at 5:00 a.m. and returns at 3:00 p.m. (custom times possible on request). The cost is for 4 persons, however, additional persons (6 maximum) can be brought along at a price of $100 each. Also, it appears keeper Red Grouper is more accessible further offshore. This is a great trip!

    This trip gives lots of opportunities for larger and more select species and it goes 25-45 miles offshore. This is the captain's best summer Red Snapper trip. June and July allow for some great Red Snapper fishing but larger fish are quite a distance offshore and time is sometimes needed to get to the best areas. If you are targeting Red Snapper, this is the trip to book!

    This trip leaves at 4:00 a.m. and returns at 7:00 p.m. This trip is best for hardcore anglers. You'll be heading 30-60 miles out. The fish you'll be targeting includes Amberjack, Grouper, and Snapper. Summer finds the crew targeting large Red Snapper and then switching to catch Grouper and other Snapper. All fishing rods and reels are included in the price. Even your fishing license for the trip is included. You'll just need to bring along your own food and drink.

"I have run charter boats on Lake Michigan and the Gulf of Mexico for over 30 years." Captain Bob Poteshman has been working on other boats since even before that. His knowledge of the water and this area is huge. One of his preferred fishing styles is drift bottom fishing. He runs a clean boat that has a comfortable pilot house.
