Panama GEM Charters - 60’ Bertram

Panamá, Panamá

Our Bertram 60, has an enclosed flying bridge. She has enough stowage space to house a small Bass Pro Shop’s worth of gear, with lockable rod stowage in the cockpit, lighted rod stowage in the saloon, and overhead rod stowage in the galley and the bridge. An exterior staircase that leads to the flying bridge keeps guests safe while heading up top under way and allows for a large cockpit ready for action. If you’re more into beer-in-hand fishing, the cockpit mezzanine is great for spectators.

Underway, the Bertram 60 won’t disappoint. With a standard engine package of twin CAT pumping out 1,925 horses each, she gets up to a 39 knots on the pins.

After a long day of raising trophies, the interior welcomes tired anglers with a U-shaped settee to port opposite a recessed television (in case you’re fishing on game day). Forward of the saloon is a large galley to port with seating and a dinette to starboard. When it comes time to turn in, guests can rest their heads in style in one of 3 staterooms—a large master, a forward VIP with a queen berth, or two guest staterooms with twin berths. Ideal for 9 passengers overnight and a total of 25 passenger for a fun day cruise at the beach.

Fishing is not a priority on this boat.  The captain and crew spoke no English.  It was impossible to align our objectives with the Captain.  We basically stopped fishing at noon.  If you want a pleasure cruise, this is the boat for you but if you want to fish…  not so much

The Team at Panama GEM Charters did a great job of helping sort out our issues.  First Class customer service.  Work directly with GEM Charter team and I’m sure you will find a boat that meets your fishing or pleasure boat needs.

Sorry Ive taken so long to get back to you - was busy catching up with work, and I wanted to give it some time to see if my opinion would soften as to how the day went down.

Unfortunately I don’t have much good to say about our experience with your Captain, who was apathetic to say the least.

I know we got a late start (our fault) so wasn’t expecting much in the way of fishing, but when we got to the island we had to wait several hours for the food to come, and when it came it was cold
The problem is is the Captain didn’t seem to care much that the food wasn’t coming out, and it was only after several calls by me to Eddie, and after almost insisting that he pull anchor and take us back to Panama so we could get something to eat that he finally made an effort to launch the tender with the mate to go look for the food.
Everytime we made and enquiry to him to call the restaurant to find out about the lunch all he would tell us was “its coming” - this was after us waiting patiently for several hours and it had to get to the point where the guys starting cussing.
It took him FOREVER to launch the tender to finally go look for the food.  On top of all of that he couldn’t seem to get the launch back onto the boat, so he ended up towing it around to another inlet and then like Keystone Cops they burned a lot of our time trying to get it back on the boat.
So all in all we burned about 4 hours sitting in that cove, a good portion of which we could have been out on the water.

Again, I can’t complain about not catching any fish and to be honest we were really just out for a relaxing day on the water, but the whole lunch fiasco really spoiled the day and left a terrible taste (or lack there of ) in our mouths.

Really, that captain was an not professional at all.
All the guys were upset.
Suffice it to say I would not recommend him as a man to go to sea with again

PS a couple of the guys in our group are serious sport fishermen and they said the rigs that the mate set were a waste of time and he didn’t know what or how to set for fish
