A Grand Addiction Guide Service

M 21
Lowell MI, United States

My name is Nick Godwin.  I have a fishing addiction.

Growing up in the country, I was a kid who naturally loved the outdoors. Whether it was chasing chipmunks around grandma’s farm with my BB gun or catching frogs & grasshoppers to go fishing with. I was outdoors and loving it. My passion for hunting & fishing only grew as I got older. I never had any interest in organized sports. I was off somewhere practicing my casting & woodsman skills while other kids my age were at ‘ball practice’.

My parents owned a sport shop for a few years and that only seemed to intensify my desire to hunt and fish as much as I could.

I loved fishing lakes and ponds for whatever was biting but I was slowly becoming what has been termed as a ‘river rat’ by some. I was chasing big brown trout and fishing rivers in general every chance I could. I just felt I belonged there.

Then about 1990 my world changed! I was introduced to something called a steelhead on the Little Manistee River. I became hooked instantly! I began to find myself sleeping on the riverbank. Taking 5 day weekends. Leaving home to fish for 1 day and not returning for 3! The usual ‘odd’ behavior of an addict. “The tug is the drug” I’d always tell my girlfriends as I headed out the door for another steelheading adventure somewhere. Fishing was always a passion of mine but steelheading took it to an entirely different level. The passion soon turned into an obsession, which became an addiction.  Which lead to the present and me becoming a licensed/insured fishing guide here in Michigan.

Since moving to Lowell, Michigan almost 10 years ago I have discovered another fish that has made my addiction even worse. The Great Lakes Muskellunge. This fish has become something I absolutely love fishing for! Day or night. Lake or river. Muskies are an absolutely incredible fish!  Hooking one of these brutes takes ‘The tug is the drug’ to an entirely different level for me!
