If you’re looking for the ultimate Tanzanian outdoor experience, you can’t go wrong with Linecasters, operating out of Dar es Salaam. Their operator Fred Steynberg has been professionally guiding fly fishing trips for over 20 years and is known as one of the most seasoned guides of South Africa. His experience spreads through Mozambique, Mexico, Tanzania, Cuba, Angola, and Seychelles, especially focusing on mountain rivers of Rhodes in Africa.
Your adventure will begin by meeting the Linecasters crew at the airport in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. From there, a private charter plane (included in the price) will take you to your lodge in Selous Game Reserve for a 5 night/5 day trip. The lodges are located on the bank of the Ulanga River, where you’ll be fishing. There are no settlements on the reserve and the closest village is about 2 hours away – you’ll be staying in absolute wilderness and privacy.
The price includes staying in huge (7x4 meters) double safari tents. Each tent has 2 double beds in the front and a shower/toilet in the back. The fishing permits are included, so are the fuel costs, meals (3 per day), drinks, and all the transportation.
Captain Fred specializes in fly fishing, and he can provide all the gear if needed, but you can also bring your own. He also does spinning and light tackle fishing – just let him know what you wanna do, and he’ll get the gear sorted. Your main targets will be the Tanzanian Blue Tigerfish, Vundu Catfish, and Steelhead.
You can see hippos, crocodiles, wild dogs, leopards, and buffalos all the time, and hear the lions roaring at night. There are even some elephants now and then.
You can go fishing every day – there are 4 boats that can comfortably take all the guests, but you can also fish from the rocks on the riverbank. Fishing is done from a 2019 20’ Aliboats Jon boat that can take up to 4 anglers. It comes with a Yamaha engine and top-notch navigational and safety gear.
