Doctor Hook Fishing - Torai 43’

Westhaven Dr
Auckland, New Zealand

Doctor Hook Fishing Charters offers a variety of fishing trips out of Auckland, New Zealand. Whether you want to spend the whole day with your family and kids fishing around these grounds, or are a more adventurous fisho, Doctor Hook’s got what you need.

The waters of Hauraki Gulf are without a doubt one of the hottest fisheries worldwide. You can catch the likes of Snapper, John Dory, Yellowtail Kingfish, Kahawai, Salmon, Silver Trevally, and many more. Full day trips are the best option to have enough time to fish.

Your guide for the day is Bruce Newbury. He has been fishing around these waters for nearly 40 years. That means that he well knows how the fish migrate and what works best for them. Bruce will gladly assist throughout the day and will invest efforts to make your trip memorable and enjoyable. If a family with kids, you might want to have the whole boat to yourselves and cherish nice moments with your young ones.

You will join Bruce aboard his 43’ Dave Wade boat, Torai. She is powered by a 250 HP Hino engine, with a maximum cruising speed of 15 knots. The boat is fitted with the navigational gear, wide and gives plenty of stability while at anchor and underway. Up to 13 anglers can come along and still have enough room to fish comfortably and unwind.

What’s great about Doctor Hook is that the fishing grounds are not far away. This means more time for fishing. During summer, a lot of schools come to the inner harbor, and you can fill the bags in short time. In winter, it will take you a bit more to reach the fisheries and come to the gulf islands and various reefs.

As for the fishing gear, you can bring your own favorite toolkit. Another option is hiring a rod from Bruce, and having bait supplied at an additional charge. It’s best to check the price before the trip.

Pack food and refreshments, sunblock, sunnies, a cap, and comfortable clothes and footwear. You will definitely want to bring a camera to get a shot of all the colorful fish around.

Captain Bruce and his assistant Macro is very helpful, they try to find the good fishing point and prepare everything for us. The fishes keep non-stop eating the bait. All of us feel exciting and get fun. We will be back again. Awesome
