When you're thinking of the North Carolina coast, one thing comes to mind: extreme fishing. With the Gulf Stream whizzing past, these waters are home to incredible nearshore and offshore fishing opportunities. Take advantage with Captain Big Fish. Operated by Captain Monty Childers, try your hand at a range of fishing. Having fished since he was a little boy, he gets the same thrill watching you reel in anything from a Mackerel to a Mahi.
Step aboard a 37' Grady White center console and get ready to make your dreams come true. Powered by three 300 HP Yamaha offshore engines, you'll reach a speed of up to 35 knots, getting you on the fish faster than the rest. She also comes equipped with Garmin navigational equipment. You'll have a private bathroom on board, an essential on longer trips, especially as you make use of the free water on board.
You'll take advantage of the live bait well on board, with bait prepared before your trip, and outriggers will also help you troll. On the reefs, try jigging and bottom fishing, while further out, wait for the reels to start screeching and jump to the rods to start reeling in a big one. Expect to go after Snappers, Groupers, Mackerels, and Cobia when hitting the nearshore. While offshore, you could catch anything from a spectacular Sailfish to a delicious Mahi Mahi.
Head up to 65 miles offshore to be at one with the marine life around you. The biggest fish live here and you'll be amazed as you gaze upon these monsters. Half Day Trip – Nearshore - 1:00 PM on September 3, 2026 • 4 adultsIf you're looking to book a fishing charter, I truly don't think you could land on a better captain than Captain Monty Childers. Captain Monty and his 2015 Grady-White Express delivered one of the best charter experiences I've ever had—and I've been on several offshore trips. From the moment we stepped aboard, Monty and his mate went above and beyond to make sure our entire group was comfortable and having a great time. They even brought bean bag chairs so the ladies in our group could relax and enjoy the ride. What impressed me most, though, was how Captain Monty handled an unexpected situation. When one member of our group wasn't feeling up to making the trek offshore, Monty immediately put their well-being first. He made sure they had water, a cool towel, and someone to talk to while helping ease their nerves. At the same time, he completely pivoted our original plans and put together an awesome nearshore trip for the rest of us who were still hoping to catch a big one. That ability to adapt on the fly while still making sure every person in our group was taken care of says everything you need to know about the kind of captain he is. And the fishing was only part of what made the day so memorable. Monty entertained our entire group from start to finish. He told stories, joked around with us, and had all four of us laughing our asses off for hours. By the end of the trip, it felt less like we'd hired a charter captain and more like we'd spent the day fishing with someone we'd known for years. I can confidently speak for our entire group when I say we could not have been happier with the experience Captain Monty gave us. Between his professionalism, hospitality, personality, and ability to completely adapt the trip to our group, he turned what could have been a difficult situation into an unforgettable day on the water. For the experience we had that day, I genuinely would have been happy paying double what the trip cost. Captain Monty and the experience he created were worth every penny and then some. We will absolutely fish with him again. If you're considering booking a charter with Captain Monty Childers, do it. You won't regret it.

Half Day Trip – Nearshore - 1:00 PM on August 22, 2026 • 4 adults • 1 childCaptain Monty is a great captain…tons of knowledge and his love for fishing is contagious. The boat will be rockin’ (musically) and the fish will be floppin’ (on the deck) on a trip with Captain Monty. Capt put us on a barracuda and my 13 year old brought it in like a champ, all while being coached by Capt. After our barracuda hunt we did some bottom fishing and all the kids caught multiple fish in a 45 minute window. If you’re looking for a sure bet for catching fish Captain Monty is your man! PS - Captain Monty lent us a fillet knife because I mentioned needing a knife to do some pre-cook butchering to de-bone some fish. That’s a whole other level of cool. That’s actually a good description of Captain Monty…cool.

His deck hand Ashton did great helping as well! We weren’t able to catch the massive barracuda, but we were able to catch plenty of Spanish mackerel to take home and cook for dinner. Such a fun and memorable trip. We would absolutely recommend Captain Monty to anyone looking for a great day out on the water!

The fishing was incredible—we caught at least 20–25 Spanish mackerel, and there was almost always a rod bent. Monty kept us on the fish all morning and made the trip fun, entertaining, and enjoyable for everyone on board. Alex was outstanding—friendly, hardworking, and always there to help with baiting hooks, landing fish, and making sure everyone had a great experience. If you’re looking for a charter with an experienced crew, lots of action, and a fun atmosphere, this is the one to book. We made great memories and can’t wait to come back for another trip. Highly recommend!

Our half day trip with Captain Monty was one for the books. We left the dock early in the morning and caught a beautiful sunrise on the water. Within the first hour we had hooked up on a handful of fish. We ended the day with a dozen fish and lots of good memories. Captain Monty and his mate were very professional and great people to get to know throughout the day. They took great care of us throughout the trip. I highly recommend him for anyone looking to book a charter in the area!
