Hilton Head Gullah Gal Fishing

Captain Jeff: "As of June 1, we are operating with normal procedures and availability. With regard to Covid-19, we have lifted all limitations on groups. We can take any assortment of people up to 6 people per boat. If you have more people, we have 3 boats available."

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is known for its Harbor Town Lighthouse and Coastal Discovery museums, Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, and of course, its Atlantic coast beaches. It’s also home to Hilton Head Gullah Gal Fishing, a professional guiding service specializing in both family-friendly and sportfishing trips.

Owner and Captain Jeff Kline invites you to spend the day aboard his “Gullah Gal,” a 34’ Crusader flybridge boat. Freshly restored in 2018, it comes with the latest and best in navigational electronics and safety gear, a 370 HP Cummins 6BTA engine, downriggers, a fighting chair, a live bait tank, and an ice-box (ice is provided). It’s also wheelchair accessible and boasts a restroom for maximum comfort on longer trips.

USCG-licensed Captain Mike Kline will take you exploring the bountiful local waters up to 20 miles offshore in pursuit of Redfish, Seabass, King Mackerel, Tarpon, Cobia, Jack Crevalle, and others. Gullah Gal Sport Fishing specializes in catching Sharks so don’t miss the chance to fish for Hammerhead, Blacktip, and Tiger with some of the biggest experts in the area.

You’ll be supplied with top-notch light tackle spinning gear, as well as heavy tackle by Penn International, lures, and live bait. Catch and release is encouraged, but if you prefer to keep your catch, the captain will gladly clean and bag it for you to take home.

This is a good trip for more experienced anglers or perhaps a larger group that wants more fishing time to entertain everyone. We can fish for Cobia (mid-May to mid-June), Barracuda, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, and a variety of Sharks from 10 to 100 lbs. We are usually 5 to 15 miles offshore. To fish for Tiger Shark, our biggest game, an 8 hour trip is necessary.

In late September, October and early November our eating fish have gone. You will be doing bottom fishing of fishing for Bull Red Fish and Sharks. The Reds are too big to keep as they are the breeders, but they are in the 20lb to 30lb range and the coolest fish we catch all year. In the summer we fish for King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel and a variety of Sharks which are usually between 3' and 6' long. Hilton Head Island is "Shark Central" in the summer time.

The fishing is fine this time of year, but you often need to get a bit further offshore to get to the fish. The fall is big Bull Redfish time about 5 miles out. The winter is Black Sea Bass and lots of keepers 15 miles out. The Spring is Cobia fishing also about 15 miles out. You pay the 5 hour price and we'll add the extra time for free.

Afternoon Shark fishing nearshore. This trip is great for families. The Sharks are typically 2' to 5' long, weighing anywhere between 10 to 50lbs. Please note, it gets a bit cooler on the water in the afternoon compared to the morning due to the ocean breeze. This trip is a great way to stay closer to shore, in calm water, and get some awesomely fun Shark fishing done. It's a great sport and a fun way to spend the afternoon!

Over 50 father of 2 daughters. Originally from Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore, I have lived on Hilton Head Island for 20 years. While not a native to HHI, I've been fishing saltwater since I was in diapers. I'm a college educated guy who runs a tight professional ship. I am a former corporate guy who worked with Merrill Lynch, CoreStates Bank (now Wachovia) and Commerce Bank (now TD Bank). We like families the best and often get three generations on the same trip. But we are ready to take out a bachelor party or group of Marine Drill Sergeants from Paris Island (which is right next door) as well. There is no age limit on our boats. They are three of the largest and most comfortable charter boats on Hilton Head Island.
