Hellraiser 2 is a 43’ O’Brien propelled by 450HP Cummins engine (one engine replaced, another rebuilt, and a new generator installed in 2011), with a cruising speed of between 20 and a maximum of 28 knots. The boat is fitted with a wide range of modern electronics, including a full Simrad package with the CHIRP transducer that was installed back in 2013.

Designed with the conditions of the Great Barrier Reef in mind by the famous boat builder, Peter O’Brien, the vessel is a completely air-conditioned flybridge cruiser, featuring a tuna tower, private double cabin with ensuite, as well as 4 V berths along with a secluded bathroom. Hellraiser 2 also has a fully-equipped galley and a saloon outfitted with a spacious lounge area, complete with stereo, TV and DVD.

Cairns Black Marlin Charters are owned and operated by Capt. Steve and Sue Ahlers, both passionate anglers with various fishing achievement to their name. A North Queensland native, Capt. Ahlers has more than 20 years of experience on the waters of the Great Barrier Reef and the Gulf, and has been a part of many winning teams in one way or another, be it fishing, crewing or skippering. Among other achievements, Sue was crowned Female Anglers champion in the prestigious Lizard Island Tournament in 2010.

The Hellraiser 2 crew specializes in daily, liveaboard and extended charters, primarily targeting the elusive Black Marlin on the Great Barrier Reef. Operating out of Cairns as well as Cooktown, the vessel can be loaded with enough fuel, refrigerated food and water to spend between 7 and 9 days on board. Steve, Sue and Dan were exceptional hosts for a day out with my wife and kids. Caught a wide variety of fish by both trawling and bottom fishing and took enough fresh Mackerel and coral trout home to feed a small army. All up a great experience for the family.
