It’s safe to say that a passion for angling was always on the cards for Captain Mack Shaw – he was born on a boat in Vancouver, and his love for this sport has only grown since then! His family moved to Gabriola Island in 1999, where his father introduced him to these waters. In 2018, with over 20 years of experience under his belt, Capt. Matt decided to use his wealth of local angling know-how to set up Shaw Charters.
Capt. Mack offers a variety of angling adventures that are packed full of tips, tricks, and secret locations. These have been passed down to him from his father, who always wanted to run his own charter company. As well as exploring some of the island’s famous hot spots such as The Fingers and Thrasher Rock, you’ll also be treated to some true insider knowledge!
You’ll be traveling on board your captain’s 22’ Grady White center console, built to accommodate up to 4 guests, with room for everyone to tangle lines at the same time. Her size makes her the perfect option for an idyllic family vacation, or a light-hearted competition with your best fishing buddies. On board, you’ll find top-quality navigational gear, life jackets for all ages, and space for your cooler packed with snacks and drinks.
Gabriola Island is home to stunning scenery but, more than it, it’s also home to some world-famous fish! Lingcod, multiple Salmon species, Halibut, and Rockfish all inhabit these waters. Capt. Mack will help you troll and bottom fish using top-notch fishing gear, including mooching reels to help you plumb the depths of these waters.
In addition to this, your captain also knows some incredible spots that are just bustling with crabs and prawns – they never fail him, so get ready to pack your cooler with some delicious dinner options!
