First Due Charters – Ice Fishing

Why let the weather get the better of you when you have First Due Charters to take care of you? Let Captain Greg Shadler take you out on the ice to show you some Great Lake ice fishing. Far from hiding from the weather, you’ll make the most of it, taking advantage of the isolated lake to have all the fishing to yourself.

With over 40 years of fishing behind him on Lake Erie, Capt. Greg is just the guy to show you the productive fishing grounds. Running year-round trips in the area, he has a wealth of knowledge on the local area and all kinds of fishing, and can’t wait to take each new customer out on the ice.

There’s a range of productive spots at your mercy, but it all depends on the density of the ice and where the fish are! Thankfully, you’ll be in possession of a sonar to tell you all the relevant information. You’re likely to head to Put-In-Bay and its surrounding islands, but Capt. Greg will be in touch before your trip to confirm where he’ll meet you and whizz you off in your all-terrain vehicle.

As the captain uses his auger to drill the hole through which you’ll fish, you’ll help set up the heaters and the tent, before settling down for a comfortable day’s fishing. Try jigging to lure the bite of some exciting Walleye or delicious Perch and get ready to react quickly to hook it up through the hole, before putting your catch on ice.

At the end of the day, your captain will clean and fillet your catch for you to take home, so you’re ready for a hearty, warming meal as soon as you step through the door. All you need to do is grab your fishing license, bring some snacks and drinks on your trip, and get your fish on. Don’t lock yourself away all winter, come and see for yourself the magic of ice fishing!

I was introduced to Lake Erie fishing 40 years ago by my father, we spent every weekend in the summer fishing. My father grew up on the lakeshore and cleaned fish as a kid at Butch & Denny's baitshop. He taught me well how to catch and clean Walleye and Perch but more importantly safe boating on Lake Erie. When I turned 15 I bought my first boat and spent every free minute on the water. When I turned 21 I joined the Jerusalem Twp fire department, I became a FF/EMT and shortly after became a rescuediver and took over the Dive team. I'm now a career FF/ Paramedic/ Rescudiver and run charters on my off days from the fire department.
