We had the absolute best time with Phil! So much so that we booked a second trip with him just days after our first trip! 😂 Phil is personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely just fun to be around! What a great day and pleasant surprise! The charter with Captain Phil was an all around perfect family day with my wife, 20year old daughter and her friend. Captain Phill is polite, professional, and engaging.

Captain Phil’s boat is tricked out with the latest in sonar, radar, and power control systems. The boat can anchor without an anchor.

Captain Phill has a motto: keep bait on the hook and keep the line in the water. He makes sure the fishing happens and put us on top of fish all day. We caught snapper, black bass, grouper, and pompano. We landed a few skipjack and upon request of my daughter – – three sharks. In all, The four of us caught maybe a 100 fish and kept 20 for good eating.

Captain had some challenging conditions because it was brutally hot, no breeze whatsoever, and dead water, but we still caught some fish and had fun.  Specific highlights:  Cold water provided and necessary.  Good explanations for beginners; my wife went from almost pulling my eyeball out casting to being pretty smooth by the end of the morning.  Good patience and teaching personality.  He’ll cast for you if you prefer that or you can do it.  I have a little more experience but still had questions that were answered in an educational manner.  Plenty of live bait of various types caught before you get on the boat.  Anticipates when you need new bait - i.e, sees that strike that didn’t set but definitely stole the shrimp and has another one in hand by the time you get the hook back to the boat.  Can change strategies on the fly - hook type, size, bait, etc. 

We caught trout mostly, a grunt, several mangrove snapper, a couple cats, had a huge needle fish jump off right by the boat, lady fish hit hard but didn’t land.  Lots of variety on the grass flats, which was fun.  We had some real good strikes from snook, but they shook us.  Went looking for redfish but no luck.  It was very hot very early.  All around, good inshore trip, and we learned a lot.

I’ve been on dozens of guided fish trips, and Captain Phil is top notch! He does a great job getting you on your target species, taking you off the beaten path and avoiding all the crowded spots while still catching a lot of fish. We were the only boat in our first few spots, and we only saw one other boat pass by until we went back inshore. Captain Phil is a great guy and fun to be around. He taught me some new things and had my girlfriend, who has never fished, catching fish within a few minutes, so he has a great ability to teach people of all skill levels what they need to do to get fish and have a good time with it. If you’re looking for a great day on the water, Captain Phil should be at the top of your list!
