Famous for its incredible beaches, birdwatching, the Texas Maritime Museum, and of course, fishing, Rockport attracts numerous nature lovers each year. If you’re eager to explore the best that these plentiful waters have in store, booking a trip with Jody Starr Outfitting is a safe bet. They offer premier inshore guided trips for anglers of all skill levels. Capt. Jody Starr has 35 years of experience, and he can’t wait to share his knowledge with you.
Spend a day aboard his 25’ Haynie bay boat, fresh out of the box in 2019. It still has that new boat smell and comes with the latest marine electronics and safety gear, a 350 HP Mercury engine, a wireless trolling motor, and a live bait tank. It also has 2 onboard coolers – one for your refreshments and one for the catch. It can accommodate up to 4 anglers fishing in full comfort (less when fly fishing).
Fly fishing is reserved for a maximum of 2 anglers, out of which one person can fish at a time. Just make sure to bring your own gear. If you’re more into the conventional tackle, the captain will supply the top-notch equipment by various brands (mostly Falcon). You’ll get to choose between lures and live bait, which is sometimes caught before, and sometimes during the trip.
You’ll get your lines wet in just 10–30 minutes after leaving the dock and Capt. Jody will show you his favorite secret spots. Depending on the bite, you’ll get to reel in Trout, Redfish, and Flounder, as well as Black Drum. You’ll be fishing until you reach the limits or you can stay out there and just relax in the sun.
After the trip, the captain will clean and fillet your catch free of charge. Kids of all ages are welcome to join, just bring your own life jackets for the smallest of them. You should also purchase licenses before the trip and bring any food/drinks of your choice.
All aboard!
