Luis put us on some fish while other boats in the area seemed to be pretty dormant.  Landed a good size Mahi Mahi early and a second, bigger one, 15 feet from the boat when it shook off.  A very smart Marlin ate our bait on two lines right up to the hook.  Big lull after that, but moved inshore to go for some smaller species, and then hammered a gigantic Mahi Mahi.  Luis knows these waters very well and rigs the boat in what feels like a matter of seconds.  It was amazing to watch.

We went out with Luis and Shirley plus four adults. He gave us the option of inshore or offshore fishing, we had 6 hours so we chose offshore. We trolled around for about 2hrs then hooked a massive sail fish. I was able to reel it in, biggest fish of my life. We hooked another about an hour later and my dad reeled it in. What an experience. So happy we booked with Luis, he was prepared, prompt, and easy to find. Ample parking at the launch site as well which was really nice.

Capt Luis is a very experienced fisherman and will try his best to get you on the fish. It was a bit slow probably due to the eclipse but him and his wife were able to get us a big sailfish and a 20 pound plus bull Mahi. We learn new things every time we charter fishing trips. We were probably 20 plus miles off shore trolling in the largest pod of dolphins I had ever seen. We were trying hard to catch yellow fin tuna but could not get them to bite.  They were feeding just below the dolphins but I did see some large ones breach the water. Capt Luis tied several techniques to get a stoke but they can be elusive. We fish for these same fish here in SE Florida on out boat so we get it.  Would highly recommend booking the El Gato III.  if you are traveling to Flamingo from the northern beaches like Coco and Hermosa,  please check out the shortcut road called the “Monkey Trail” it will cut your trip in half. Road is subject to the rainy season.

This is our first trip to CR. Like every first timer, I really just took a shot in the dark at booking a sport fishing trip for me and my wife.

Captain Louis and his wife did an excellent job. He put us on the fish trolling all day. First hook-up of the day was a big Marlin.  Not having to do with the crew but because of my lack of experience prevented us from landing the monster.
We caught a couple good sized Mahi ( which I’m posting just after having a fabulous fresh catch dinner).
You can’t go wrong with this charter. I’ll be booking them in the future.

This was one fun experience for myself and brothers. Luis & his partner were punctual with time, they had a well organized boat perfect size for our small group & they had refreshers and snacks for us. We caught about 12 different sized fish of all sorts. At the end they filleted them for us and we took them to a look restaurant where they cooked it on the spot!!! Highly recommend Captain Luis and El Gato!
