We fished a half day on June 7, 2023.  The goal was to mark one thing off my bucket list, a sailfish or marlin.  Goal accomplished!!!  The captain and crew worked really hard to make this happen.  They checked baits every 20-30 minutes and made changes to baits if they weren’t working.  They had snacks, beer, water, pineapple for me during the trip.  The crew was very friendly and easy to talk to.  Pick up from my resort went well.  I would recommend High Z’s to anyone and will definitely book again next year when I come to Puerto Plata.

I booked this trip for my husband and his 2 friends that were on vacation with us. The guys had a great time and caught a big mahi. I booked online and the captain came to our resort to pick them up and drop them off. Well worth $400 for private charter. The guys could’ve kept fish but they let the captain have it seeing we were at all inclusive. Good time- couldn’t ask for anything else. Captain Nelson was very nice guy with good information on what to do in the area if we want to venture out. Would highly recommend!!!

The captain and crew were very nice, my wife and I reeled in one sizable wahoo. But 3 other fish got away. Captain Nelson had the day off for our charter but picked us up and drove us to the boat. We enjoyed chatting with him and he was extremely helpful. We would have loved to get to know him better and hear more about the city and area while we waited between bites.  The crew spoke enough english to communicate and had a positive attitude and kept the trip fun! We would have liked to catch a few more fish and got most of the bites further out from shore on the ride back. The snacks and drinks were good as well. We would probably come book again if we come back to Puerto Plata

We enjoyed a fun afternoon of fishing on 1-1-23. The weather was great, the boat was nice (including a bathroom), the variety of chips and drinks was great (along with some delicious pineapple), and I got to soak up the sun while my husband reeled in three fish! Our captain Alex and first mate were very friendly and personable. They were constantly asking if we needed anything and made it obvious that they wanted us to have a good time. And we definitely did! We were staying in Sosua and High Z’s provided free hotel pickup and drop off - very much appreciated. The only thing that was missing, and that I had hoped for, was to have a suggestion for us to keep and take our mahi-mahi somewhere to be prepared for us. I know it wasn’t “included,” so all is well. We would definitely recommend booking with High Z’s!

I want to make sure everyone understands the fishing in the Dominican, the captain and crew works hard to put you on fish , I targeted a marlin in which they rig completely different than the other fish , you spend a lot of time trolling which gets very boring at times for a chance to catch a marlin 200 plus.  I would highly suggest if you have kids or get bored fast , tell captain Nelson to bring rigging for other fish including bottom fishing , marlin aren’t there by the 1000s so the chance of catching one, is a luck of the draw but when you do it’s amazing .
I did end of with some barracuda and a wahoo in which he offered to cook for me, but I was headed to dinner with friends , his English is good , he took and showed me his house , made me a drink while waiting for my ride , they picked me up 45 min away at hotel , was on time and ready to go , I brought snacks in which I did not need , he had sandwiches, chips , fruit , drinks , was a tough day fishing but it happens, it’s fishing not catching , they did all they could do , we ran 20 miles plus looking for them , water was dirty which made the marlin spread out captain said
I would definitely use him again , he offered me to stay at his house by beach to go try again but was limited on time before heading home ,and to mention he had pump trouble on motor nite before and worked till 2am replacing it, so as not to cancel , the man and crew worked hard I’m telling ya , just wasn’t my day for a blue marlin , but will for sure be back to give it another shot , he will give you his private number to keep in touch
