Westhaven Dr
Auckland, New Zealand

Megabites Fishing Charter runs recreational saltwater fishing trips out of the heart of the Auckland City, New Zealand. Head to the Z Pier in the Westhaven marina, and hop onboard for some fine fishing!

Once onboard, you will be greeted by an experienced crew. They have been fishing the waters of the Hauraki Gulf for many years, and know how to maximize your chances of landing that trophy fish. Whether you’re a seasoned angler, or a novice eager to get started, the crew will make sure you don’t miss out the chase.

“MV LegASea” is a custom-built 31’ White Pointer boat in a survey for 10 persons, but the captain prefers having a max of 8 onboard to give everyone enough space to be comfortable.

The boat is powered by a 370 HP Volvo Penta D6 engine, with a maximum cruising speed of 40 knots. She is rigged with GPS, a fishfinder, and stores the safety equipment required. Onboard, anglers will find an ice box, a live bait well, outriggers, and a toilet.

These waters are home to Snapper, Kingfish, Australian Salmon, and John Dory, to name a few. But, Snapper and Kingfish are the real treat! Start your day trolling for Kingfish, or go to deeper waters for some bottom fishing for Snapper. When packing for the trip, bring your fishing gear, lures and bait, or take it onboard at an extra charge. You won’t need a fishing license.

So, what do you need for the trip? Bring food and drinks. If you usually get seasick or think you might, take medication beforehand. Put on comfortable clothes, to be able to move around easily. You might want to consider packing an extra layer in case you get wet. Put on sunblock, a cap, sunglasses, and of course, don’t forget a camera. The catch here can be big and colorful, so you’ll want to capture the moment!

Darell is a professional who knows his waters and knows his fish. His quiet manor fills you with confidence (especially when taking a 9 year old) and we caught a broad cross section of fish from gurnard to snapper and kingfish.
I found him to be a good bloke who loves what he does and his enthusiasm is infectious.
I wish him all the best and tight lines

Great day on legasea windy and very strong currents on the day but captain Darrel was prepared to move from spot to spot until we caught fish. Everyone on the boat caught something mostly snapper in all great day. Thanks Darrel

Average conditions, slow start but fantastic end result
Tough to beat next year
Great boat, 6 best number
Great to see that the skipper travelled to a top spot could have easily stayed close to the shore due to the wind
