Welcome to Capt. John Dixon’s Scalloping and Fishing Charter Guide Service in Homosassa and Crystal River, FL. John is a Florida native who has been a nearshore licensed captain for 23 years and a commercial fisherman since the 70’s.
Meet up with him on a custom 23’ Carolina Skiff that can comfortably fit 4 people on board. The boat is cozy with plenty of shade and seating, as well as a multimedia system where you can play your favorite playlist. You’ll use a trolling motor to come closer to the fish and get them to bite more easily.
Homosassa, along with nearby Crystal River, is known for its diverse fishery. You’ll be able to target Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Spotted Seatrout, Flounder, Spanish Mackerel, and an abundance of other game fish. The area features many small islands surrounded by oyster bars and rocks, large grass flats, and sandbars that provide an excellent fishing environment. Besides this, you can expect to see many mammals and birds in their native habitat, including ospreys, dolphins, and manatees.
You’ll be using a variety of different methods and fishing techniques, from casting jigs at aggressive surface fish, to bottom fishing or casting flies and artificial lures. Experience is not needed as your captain will be more than happy to teach you casting, hooking and fighting techniques to help you enjoy more success.
When it comes to fishing gear, the captain is happy to provide everything you need for a successful trip. Both conventional and fly tackle will wait for you on the boat but feel free to bring yours if you’re more comfortable. During the scalloping season, you’ll even have snorkeling gear on board, if you’d like to take a dive for these tasty creatures.
Whether you’re looking to book a personal, family fishing charter or a corporate event involving multiple boats, Capt. John Dixon can arrange it for you. The captain fishes from both Homosassa and Crystal River, so pick a starting point and get ready for exciting fishing times!
