Fishing the warm, tropical waters around the beautiful Whitsunday Islands from Airlie Beach is an angler’s dream come true. Located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, the stunning coastlines and clear seas make the perfect backdrop to catching some of the most interesting fish in the ocean. Unspoiled, isolated bays, tropical fringing reefs, sea grass beds and coastal island areas attract a large and diverse variety of fish species, which can be fished for using a variety of techniques.
FishDive Charters and Eco Tours have been operating in the area for twenty years. With plenty of experience of diving and sportfishing under their belt and a passion for providing a great service to people from all over the globe, they aim to provide you with the experience of a lifetime aboard one of their two agile center console skiffs.
The larger of the two boats is Kaya 1, a 6 meter (20’) sportfisher that was built for comfort. With a helpful shady canopy, built in ice box, live bait tank and the best available rods and reels, Kaya 1 was designed to offer a fast and comfortable ride to the offshore fishing grounds. Catering for up to 6 guests and powered by a 90HP four stroke motor, the vessel is mostly used for live bait and offshore tours.
Depending on the trip you chose, you can expect to target various species using a range of techniques aboard Kaya 1. This could include targeting Barramundi, Queenfish, Golden and Giant Trevally, Mangrove Jacks, Cobia and more using live bait or lures, or trolling with 15 kg Shimano rods and reels for Sailfish, Spanish Mackerel, Northern Bluefin Tuna and the Juvenile Black Marlin.
All half day tours include morning/ afternoon tea and refreshments, while the full day tours include a tropical lunch as well. A portable toilet is available on request, and if you want to have your catch cooked for you at the end of the day this can be arranged at the excellent ‘Fish D’vine’ restaurant on Airlie Beach.
