BlackH2oDog Charters offer a hands-on experience on Lake Erie! With Captain David at the helm, you’ll have the best guidance you could have asked for. He’s been fishing on Lake Erie for over 35 years and knows the best spots around the islands of the lake. As you can see from the photos, his trips are very family-friendly and kids are encouraged to participate as well.

You’ll be fishing on a 25’ Scout that accommodates up to 4 guests. This express cruiser has a fully enclosed helm that offers protection from wind and rain, so even a tricky weather won’t spoil your day. The boat is powered by a 250 HP Yamaha engine and features navigational electronics, a live bait tank, and a cooler.

Target Walleye any time from Late March to Thanksgiving (early December). Trolling is the primary method used to catch Ohio Walleye but you can also try with casting and drift fishing. Walleye over 28" are fairly common on Lake Erie, these Fish Ohio category Walleye can weigh 9 to 13 pounds. For the next few years, the average Walleye size will be 18" to 24". You’ll fish the open waters as well as reef structures in shallow and deep water. Besides Walleye, you can also catch Yellow Perch and Smallmouth Bass.

Capt. David covers your fishing equipment, so you don’t need to rent it. Just purchase your fishing license and bring your snacks and drinks. Kids of all ages are welcome to join. The captain loves to show newbies how to use the equipment and catch fish.

Often times the drift and cast bite is not in the same location as the trolling bite and we need to make significant move to a different on the waters location. I have been fishing Lake Erie Islands for 35+ years. My father and I fished small streams and ponds when I was a young boy. As my interest grew, we grew our fishing experiences together eventually ending up targeting Lake Erie Walleye. We started in small boats and worked our way into tournaments. Competitive fishing changes your viewpoint on finding fish that will bite on any given day. You learn to adapt to the daily conditions. I have been first mating on boats for 25+ years. Team Iowa in town for the eclipse added Walleye to fill out the weekend events. Cliff along with Matt and his sons Caleb and Elijah were an amazing crew running up to 6 Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards each side. We had a slow start that turned into a nice pick until the East winds started. Bandit Lures, Dead Eye Crank Baits and Bill Lewis PWCs 25 to 60 back. Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 50s 35 back with Bandits. Speed around 1.7 mph. Whitewater Fishing Tamer jacket was just the ticket to this mornings frosty start. Nice mix of year classes from FO size to 20 inches. Lots of pics today, these guys rocked the back deck.

Jerry and his father-in-law Rick were aboard for late afternoon Walleye charter. We left **hidden content** and headed West of the Islands. We set a mix of Bandit Lures and Dead Eye Crank Baits . Baits were run 40 to 65 behind Off Shore Tackle Company Offshore planner boards. Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 50 with a Bandit on the corners were working 28 back. Speed was 1.6 to 1.8 mph. Hot bait of the day was an H2o twist of Killin Time Kustom Baits LLC Drunk Bullfrog made with the permission of Ben. Make a point to make an order from Killing Time when you see an opening. Jerry grabbed the rod for the 28.75 inch FO. We ended the outing with the entire Port side firing off ending the days board meeting. No pics of me but my Whitewater Fishing Tamer Bibs and Torque vest were perfect for today's temperatures. Check out the cooler. We filled their cooler leaving no room for ice.
