Mighty Heron Charters

Welcome to Mighty Heron Charters! Voted best charter fishing boat by the readers of the Ocean City Sentinel for 2021. Capt. Mike’s charter has moved to Seaview Harbor Marina, 5 easy minutes from the Ocean City - Longport Bridge and 10 minutes from G.S. Parkway exits 29N and 30S. Capt. Mike has 48 years of experience fishing the area, from the back creeks to the canyons. He has been a USCG-licensed, full-time professional captain, guide, and mariner for 16 years. His experience includes towboats and fire/rescue vessels.

Fish onboard a 28’ Steiger Craft that accommodates up to 6 guests. She’s powered by twin 250 HP Yamaha engines, has the latest Garmin electronics, and has a private toilet. This boat is powerful and will get you to the fishing grounds quickly.

This crew simply loves to fish and can accommodate anglers of any age and experience level. They take great pride in setting up a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and helping you every step of the way. Your enjoyment is their top priority! For the experienced, results-driven angler, they’re ready. Capt. Mike provides high-quality bait and tackle and always works hard to put you on the fish.

During summer, you can target flounder, weakfish, and other species on the back bays or the ocean. On this same ocean trip, you may also troll or snag and drop bait for smaller tunas, sharks, and Cobia during the warmer months. On select dates, you can head offshore for Tuna, Mahi, and Wahoo.

The Spring and Fall offer Striped Bass, Seabass, and Tog on ocean structures. As appropriate, you troll, jig, or cast depending on what is working.

Mighty Heron Charters doesn’t claim to be the "best" and certainly gives no guarantees. It is, after all, fishing. What they do promise is a professional, organized, experienced, and personable crew and its best efforts to put you on the fish.

The crew has a mate on your trip to help you. Mates work hard and for tips. So please, a 15% gratuity for the mate is appropriate.

Why did I become a fisherman? I was kind of born into it. I am a native of the Cape-Atlantic region of South Jersey. I started fishing the bays around Ocean CIty and Atlantic City with my parents and brothers when I was about seven and progressively fished further offshore so I was fishing the canyons by my twenties. I take pride in working with all skill levels and teaching those with little experience. A great day is when we have caught fish, everyone had a good time, and I can share my love of fishing.

Ocean and River Striped Bass Update
Ocean and River Striped Bass Update
November 3, 2022
Striped Bass Update - November 3rd So many incoming questions about our striped friends :-) The ocean run stripers are still far up North off of Monmouth County. Think Sandy Hook to Point Pleasant. In fact, one captain up there told me that it's hard to find a charter up there that isn't booked because the bite is so hot. Water temps all along the Jersey Coast are still hovering around 61 degrees. I personally like the slow decline in water temps as I believe it leads to the bait and the stripers hugging the coast and moving slowly down on the migration. The long - range weather forecast does not show any dramatic cold - snaps or major storms. So, I think this pattern will continue. Best guess is at least two more weeks til we see any action as far South as LBI and possibly Atlantic or Cape May Counties. The river striper bite remains strong. It's very much driven by the tide so be sure to contact us first. While we are waiting for them to arrive, I'll recommend the book in the photo. The author spent an Autumn making his way down the East Coast surf fishing with different anglers and learning different techniques. I'm partial to the section where he went sod bank fishing to learn the technique with yours truly ;-) Soon, gang, soon.
