Welcome to Mighty Heron Charters! Voted best charter fishing boat by the readers of the Ocean City Sentinel for 2021. Capt. Mike’s charter is located in Somers Point, just a few blocks from the base of the Ocean City Ninth Street Bridge and minutes from G.S. Parkway exit 29N & 30S. Capt. Mike has 45 years of experience fishing the area, from the back creeks to the canyons.

Fish onboard a 28’ Steiger Craft that accommodates up to 6 guests. She’s powered by twin 250 HP Yamaha engines, has the latest Garmin electronics, and has a private toilet. This boat is powerful and will get you to the fishing grounds quickly.

This crew simply loves to fish and can accommodate anglers of any age and experience level. They take great pride in setting up a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and helping you every step of the way. Your enjoyment is their top priority! For the experienced, results-driven angler, they’re ready. Capt. Mike provides high-quality bait and tackle and always works hard to put you on the fish.

During summer, you can target Flounder, Seabass, and other species on the back bays or the ocean. On this same ocean trip, you may also troll or snag and drop bait for smaller Tuna, Mackerel, sharks, and Cobia during the warmer months.

On select dates, you can head offshore for Tuna, Mahi, and Wahoo. The spring and fall offer Seabass and Tog on ocean structures as well as Striped Bass. As appropriate, you troll, jig, or cast depending on what is working.

Mighty Heron Charters doesn’t claim to be the "best" and certainly gives no guarantees. It is, after all, fishing. What they do promise is a professional, organized, experienced, and personable crew and its best efforts to put you on the fish.

The crew has a mate on your trip to help you. Mates work hard and for tips. So please, a 15% gratuity for the mate is appropriate.

Why did I become a fisherman? I was kind of born into it. I am a native of the Cape-Atlantic region of South Jersey. I started fishing the bays around Ocean CIty and Atlantic City with my parents and brothers when I was about seven and progressively fished further offshore so I was fishing the canyons by my twenties. I take pride in working with all skill levels and teaching those with little experience. A great day is when we have caught fish, everyone had a good time, and I can share my love of fishing.

August Bay Fishing
August Bay Fishing
August 10, 2022
Hey gang! It’s not been all rapidly moving air ? and cold water. We’ve actually been hooking a lot of fish on bay trips. Some trips with 20-30 fish. Keepers….typical August in bay. Keeper to throw/back ratio is pretty high. But action. Lots of action and smiles. Congrats to Owen (pictured with keeper in the Tennessee hat and his friend) for keepers this morning. I was encouraged to photo-bomb a pic so….. We feel pretty good about action and variety on the bay for the rest of the summer season.
High Summer Fishing Update
High Summer Fishing Update
July 31, 2022
Hey Gang, Water temps are slowly returning to normal. The later in Summer bay fishing pattern is emerging. For flounder, there has been A LOT of action but we are working harder to find keepers. The invasion of the baby black sea bass has begun. Snapper blues are consistently popping up at the right stage of the tide. Of course the baby sharks are around, which is actually more of a thrill for a lot of the young ones. The reefs and wrecks are starting to get better with the warming water. Flounder, sea bass and tog are in the mix. We have a report of some bonita are showing up. Mahi action is heating up out around the 25 - 35 mile zone. Offshore tuna is pretty good. Overall the action is consistent and we are having a good time carrying great people. Check out the photo of the flounder with a bite out of it that healed over. SHARK!
