Trip Summary

3/4 day offshore live bait trolling. Started by catching a well full of pogies (menhaden) then bottom fishing for grouper as the season had just opened. I guess we were a little late (say 2 days) for the near shore fish but we did catch one cobia off the bottom. So, we went to live bait trolling. Moved to a large artificial reef and put the baits out. I threw a hand full of live menhaden out and the water turned amber. We had, I would guess, between 75 and **hidden content**# amberjacks behind the boat in just a few minutes. We hooked one and waited for the school to come in with him and just pitched a bait on a 20# spinning rod to the next one. GAME ON. After catching our limit of one per person and releasing 4 more off this spot we moved and tried to bottom fish elsewhere. It was just more AJ's, Darn what a problem to have. The smallest we kept was 25#s and the largest was 45#s. The Cobia was 16#s. Didn't get much bottom fishing done as the "reef donkey's" kicked some booty on the spinning tackle. Fun though.
