Island Marine Punta Cana Fishing Charters - Humberto Quintana

I am the owner and the operator of Island Marine Punta Cana Fishing Charters. My name is Humberto Quintana and I've been fishing in the Punta Cana area for 20 years. In February 2013, I decided to take the leap and make my passion for fishing more than a hobby. I started the business with one vessel, the Emily, and before we knew it, she was at the top of Marina Cap Cana’s billfish charts!

After a week of strong winds I was worried we’d miss the chance to fish on this vacation.  Luckily, on our chosen day the winds died away to about a dead calm…that put us on the water in near perfect weather on a great boat with a knowledgeable and talented crew.  We fished hard (targeting sailfish) for a full 6 hours, changing baits and tactics several times.  We fished through a few pods of feeding tuna, had a couple short strikes from wahoo and did eventually pick up one mahi.  No billfish but still a great day fishing.  I did a lot of research before selecting the Lady Lola…I wasn’t disappointed.  The fish didn’t cooperate for me but I highly recommend the Lady Lola and crew.

The Captain and boat never showed up. I suspect the Captain was mad abut my complaint regarding his trying to charge $100 for pick up and return to Resort. He would have received much more in tips had he not decided to not take our group. I chartered two boats and the other boat included Pick up and return in price. He never contacted me about not showing up. Another boat the Emily did take our group out after a delay. I do not understand how a Captain can not show up or at least let up know he is sending another boat. I would hesitate recommending booking with the same group. As a minimum I deserve an explanation on why the changes were done and necessary.

Hi Michael,

We are very sorry for this misunderstanding.  You spoke to me (Capt. Humberto) by phone before your trip regarding the transportation issue, and we agreed that you would have complimentary transportation for your whole family and that the cost of that transportation would be covered by ourselves (Island Marine Punta Cana) and by the operators of the other boat that you hired.

The Emily, a 53’ Viking, is our other and more comfortable vessel, which costs $940 for a half-day charter and which we decided to provide as a complimentary upgrade after speaking with you by phone and becoming familiar with your group’s characteristics.  Our Captain Alberto “Moreno” was in charge of the Emily that day.

Again, we are sorry for the misunderstanding.  Our goal was to make your group more comfortable, but apparently that goal was not met due to miscommunication.  We hope this message clears up the changes that were made and the purpose behind them.

Best regards,

Humberto Quintana

Had a great time (despite my husband being sick).  Only caught 1 (mahi) but she was a beauty!

Sailfish and White Marlin on Lady Lola!

March 13, 2017

It was a sunny morning in Punta Cana, and we left on a half-day trip aboard "Lady Lola", our 42' Bertram. The first couple of hours were slow. We saw birds and even mahi mahi jumping, but they did… Read Full Report →

Thankfully, the bad weather is finally dying down and the marina opened for all vessels (the Dominican Navy does not let any boats out if there is inclement weather). It had been closed from Monday until Thursday. The group… Read Full Report →
