We fished three spots.  First two, the fish were so small they would bite, and just robbed our bait.  At end, we went to deeper water and eventually caught a small shark.  The scenery of the islands was nice, the fishing not so good.  I am not sure if it was the time of the day, or year, or the captains inability to find fish.  I would be willing to try this captain again and give him another chance. My advice -  know the time of the year you are there, and where and what type of fish are being caught, and schedule a charter accordingly.

My wife and I booked a 4-hour morning inshore trip with Captain David. We realized that the bite was likely to be sketchy due to the previous weather. We caught a few small fish and lost what was probably a shark. Captain David was amiable with a wealth of knowledge about the local fishing. The boat and gear were top notch. We would definitely go with him again in the future.

A really enjoyable fishing trip for me, my son and two son-in-laws.  We have fished multiple times over the past 10 years coming down to HHI and never caught as large a variety and number of fish as we did with Captain Dave. We had a great time; Captain Dave is just excellent!  He is very knowledgeable of the waters around HHI, does his best to find the fish you’re interested in going after and sets up all the fishing gear. Looking forward to going out with Captain Dave on the Carolina Rig next year.

I’m from Ohio and I took my teenage son with me. I can’t think of any real reason not to give the captain 5 stars. He basically did all the work although we were more than welcome to bait the hooks and cast the lines. I guess it kind of depends on how much the customer wants participate or if they just want to real ‘em in. The action was slow at times but I blame that on the fish.  We headed out on Skull Creek to the edge of the Chechessee River. We anchored over a dropoff next to a shoal. We were there maybe an hour and had 3 strikes but landed only one, which was an Atlantic Sharpnose shark. We pulled anchor and headed northwest to another spot on the river. Action was a little better. Couldn’t land all strikes, some shook off or broke the line, but caught another 5 sharks between 6 inches to maybe 2 feet. We were hoping for more fish and a variety, but fishing being what is it we’ll take what we can get. Dave was a real nice guy although not much of a talker, but really nothing to criticize about. We enjoyed the nice boat ride and was saw maybe a half dozen or more of dolphins.

We had a great time with Captain Dave. He made us feel comfortable with as much or as little fishing as we wanted to do. Although we didn’t catch much- we had an awesome trip!
