Mike’s Fishing Charters is one of the most established names in Puerto Vallarta. They offer trips to suit any taste, from family fun days fishing inshore for Jacks and Roosterfish, to 14-hour marathon sessions 50 miles out, battling a who’s who of big game pelagic species.
You will be spending the day aboard the “Nicole”, a 38’ Bertram sportfishing boat which was completely restored in 2014. The vessel has room for up to 10 guests, but is ideally suited to no more than six anglers. She has everything you will need for a great day out, with a spacious flybridge and an air-conditioned interior, complete with an enclosed head.
The Nicole is good for way more than just cruising the bay, though. She comes armed for serious offshore battles, with outriggers, downriggers, a fighting chair, and a livewell full of fresh live bait. GPS and fishfinder will get you on the biggest fish, and tournament-grade tackle from Penn International will give you the best chance possible of bringing them in.
How far you travel and what you target when you get there is entirely up to how much time you have. If all you want to do is explore the local waters and catch some great fish, a four or six-hour trip is perfect for you. This gives you plenty of time to land some great catches, with enough left over to swim and snorkel in the beautiful clear waters of the Banderas Bay.
On the other end of the scale, you can book yourself in for the ultimate bluewater blowout out at El Banco - widely considered one of the best big game spots in the world. Here you can target massive Blue and Black Marlin, Pacific Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Hammerhead Sharks, Yellowfin Tuna, and monster Snapper for a delicious meal at the end of the day.
No matter what to choose to do, do it in comfort and safety aboard a great boat with a skilled, bilingual crew. They will work tirelessly to keep you hooked up, and will be on hand to make sure your day is perfect, whatever that means to you.
