Southern Coast Charters

Southern Coast Charters are a family-owned and operated business, which runs the largest and most comfortable fishing charters in the region, based in Port Fairy. Skipper Barry Pender has been fishing for over 50 years, so you can be sure of his skills to put you on the fish!

You’ll fish aboard the Southern Explorer – a 60’ custom-built cruiser boat, powered by twin 650 HP Yanmar engines. The vessel is prepared to take on any rough waters you may encounter. It comes equipped with a Gyro Stabilizer to help anyone who is prone to seasickness. There is plenty of space on board, and the boat can take up to 23 passengers.

It features a flybridge, and comes fitted with a fighting chair, outriggers, downriggers, centrerigger, tuna tubes, live-bait tank, and an ice-box. This vessel is well equipped for any extended overnight trips, with air-conditioning, 9 comfortable bunks, a kitchen with a fridge/freezer, a toilet and a hot shower, and a TV with a DVD player.

The crew caters to all skill levels, and uses high-quality fishing equipment. You’ll be fishing using live bait, and a range of artificial lures. They will be more than happy to clean and fillet your catch if you wish to prepare a delicious meal upon your return.

You’ll be able to try out a range of techniques, targeting Snapper, Shark, Mahi Mahi, Trout, Bass, Giant Trevally, Tuna, and Swordfish. There’s a variety of trips which will take you deep-sea offshore or reef fishing, or out to King Island.

Trips include food, snacks, and drinks, so all you need to bring is some sun protection. Recreational fishing licenses are required for the state of Victoria. The crew offers unique and exhilarating experiences that will appeal to your adventurous spirit.

Southern Coast Charters look forward to taking you out on a thrilling adventure, and putting you on some exciting fish!

I first started fishing in Port Philip and Western Port Bay with my father in his home-built timber cabin cruiser, about 50 years ago. This is where my interest in boats and fishing all began. I have been fishing in the Warrnambool and Port Fairy area since 1967. When I was a kid I built model boats, and about 15 years ago I thought I’d make my model a bit bigger and built my first 12-meter jet-powered catamaran. This was when we first started charter fishing in the area.
