Southern Coast Charters are a family owned and operated business, which runs the largest and most comfortable fishing charters in the region, based from the wharf in Port Fairy that is only 20 mins east of Warrnambool and west of Portland. Southern Coast Charters offers unique and exhilarating experiences that will appeal to your adventurous spirit.

Trips are aboard the ‘Southern Explorer’, a 60 ft custom-built Cruiser boat that is powered by twin 650HP Yanmar engines, and is equipped with GPS, fishfinder, radar, sonar and VHF radio. The vessel is prepared to take on any rough waters you may encounter, and comes equipped with a Gyro Stabilizer to help anyone who is prone to seasickness. There is plenty of space on board, and it can accommodate up to 23 passengers. It features a flybridge and two tier decks, and comes fitted with a fighting chair, outriggers, downriggers, centrerigger, tuna tubes, live-bait tank and ice-box. This vessel is well equipped for any extended overnight trips, and inside you will find reverse cycle air-conditioning, 9 comfortable bunks, kitchen with fridge/freezer, toilet and hot shower, and TV with DVD player.

Southern Coast Charters cater to all skill levels, and use high-quality fishing gear. The crew can guide you through a range of techniques to get you targeting Snapper, Sharks, Mahi Mahi, Trout, Bass, GTs, Tuna, Swordfish and more. They offer a range of half-day, full-day and overnight trips, which will take you deep-sea offshore or reef fishing, or out to King Island. Trips include all necessary fishing equipment, live bait and lures, food or snacks, drinks, and cleaning of your catch. Recreational fishing licenses are required for the state of Victoria.

Southern Coast Charters are committed to the safety of their passengers, and will not set off if the sea is not suitable. They look forward to taking you out on a thrilling adventure, and putting you on some exciting fish!

I first started fishing in Port Philip and Western Port Bay with my father in his home-built timber cabin cruiser, about 50 years ago. This is where my interest in boats and fishing all began. I have been fishing in the Warrnambool and Port Fairy area since 1967. When I was a kid I built model boats, and about 15 years ago I thought I’d make my model a bit bigger and built my first 12 metre jet powered catamaran. This was when we first started charter fishing in the area. Although the
