Trip Summary
We left ultra early today as it was a dogtooth sort of a day. We started trolling dead baits and almost instantly we were rewarded with an explosive bite and a solid hook up. This fish screamed line of the reel at warp speed even with 14 kgs of drag, within seconds it had found sanctuary in the reef and it was all over. The tide changed and with it so did the bite, dogtooth can be such fickle creatures sometimes! I decided to make a move. Upon arrival at the new area we caught bait right away. A live tuna was soon rigged and sent to his doom, it didn’t take long. Before we could get the bait in the clip it was eaten and we were hooked up. After a quick fight a plump 25 kg dogtooth hit the deck with a resounding thud, it was a well deserved fish for a happy angler. He had chased this fish in a few countries already, and I’m glad that it was on Nambas in Vanuatu that we were able to do it for him!!!
