Wasn’t sure what we would be getting ourselves into when we booked. Neither my wife nor I had fished in the ocean before. I mentioned what I’d like to catch but expressed I was fine with anything really.
Conditions weren’t perfect, water was very choppy and we knew catching fish would be a challenge.
Ended up catching a few small goat fish, a few trumpet fish and trigger fish before heading back to harbor. On the way back however we snagged a 10-15 pound tuna, which happened to be on my list of what I’d like to catch. Captain Matt helped guide me on how to bring him in and after we got to shore, fileted it up and gave tips on preparing. I couldn’t be more satisfied with the charter.

I just wanted to thank Captain Matt for a most wonderful evening fishing outing on July 23. The trip was slated primarily for my 9-year-old grandson, but also for his dad and me. We started slowly and, unfortunately, never really ran into that “mess” of fish we’d hoped for. However, my grandson caught the day’s first—and biggest—fish; his dad and I also each caught one, but that was about it. Despite that, we had a fantastic time and my grandson ended up being the star of the trip: exactly what I wanted. Thanks, again, Matt—we heartily endorse you and the “Lucky Lass.”

Scheduled a half-day trip with Capt. Matt on the Lucky Lass.  The whole experience was amazing!  Capt. Matt touched bases before our scheduled day to discuss conditions and what to expect, which was greatly appreciated.

Capt. Matt was super knowledgeable and very friendly… he had plenty of gear and even more helpful advice for the beginning fisherman! There was lots of action and we hauled in a respectable catch… 9 yellowfin and a skipjack. All in all, I would definitely recommend this excursion. It was a memorable and fun experience and I definitely plan on keeping the Capt. Matt and the Lucky Lass in mind for my next trip to Oahu.

Over all this was a great trip, The boat is smaller so the waves rock you a bit more and everything that isint in the front compartments area will get soaked but I loved this charter beacuse it was exactly what I was looking for. Captain Matthew is a cool guy making a living off taking ppl on fishing trips and being on the ship solo he needs more hands you will be asked to stear the ship fetch equipment exetra it is a very hands on charter when there is stuff to do. When it came to fishing we had a very slow day weather conditions prevented us from going where the Capt was confident was good fishing and we had nothing about 4 1/2hours into the trip until we were able to access the better waters. The captain described it perfectly,  hours of boredom with a few minutes of extream confusion chaos and excitment in between. We only ended up catching one fish on the trip but if I had to only take one fish I’m glad to have what we caught big cow Mahi aprox 30 pounds.if you book this charter expect rough seas and getting soaked but this charter offers the longest time on the water for small groups from what I’ve seen but with time and patience comes fish.

We had a great time with Matt today and were ecstatic to reel in five Mahi Mahi. We were very pleased with the value of the experience. As we are true beginners, Matt was patient and helpful. We also got to see some sharks up close and personal! Our overall experience was more than we could have ever asked for. This was a bucket list item and we were not disappointed. We cooked up our fish this evening. All around A+!
