Captain Jim was a pleasure to fish with.  He was prompt in responding to our inquiries, and in giving directions. He called the day before our trip and got a good idea of what species of fish we were after, and what our expectations were. He is a good communicator.

Weather conditions were tough for sight fishing due to wind and clouds, but Captain Jim worked hard to give us the best shot at catching fish. We were mainly after tarpon, but willing to go after the best targets of opportunity.

His instructions about casting and location were clear and helpful. I finally got a chance at a tarpon at the edge of the mangroves. Without Captain Jim’s instructions on when and how to move my lure, I don’t think I would have hooked up. I caught a nice juvenile tarpon around 25 lbs on an artificial lure. That was the first tarpon I’ve ever caught.

Captain Jim worked really hard poling his skiff around and getting us in the right position. We caught other species of fish, and missed some other opportunities at snook and bonefish, but he made sure we did get a shot even if the fish wouldn’t cooperate. We did not get a chance to fly fish because of the wind, but Captain Jim had everything rigged and ready.

I would highly recommend a backcountry fishing trip with Captain Jim Dietz. 

If you want to catch fish, and have fun doing it definitely book a trip with Jim. Had an awesome day out on the water! Weather conditions weren’t ideal but he was still able to get us on plenty of fish. He made sure the trip was fun for both my girlfriend and I. We caught a ton of fish out in the deeper water and by the reefs, then also headed to the flats to sight fish for some of the more sought after predatory fish. Got on a few nice fish in the flats even with the poor conditions, and saw a ton of awesome wildlife that normally you might not get the chance to see. Jim was very funny, easy going and knowledgeable which made for an amazing day overall. Definitely would recommend if you want to catch fish, and get out for some great times. Will definitely be booking another trip with Jim in the future!

We have a great day of tarpon fishing with Capt Jim. He put us on multiple opportunities.  He was very knowledgeable and fun to fish with. The boat and equipment were well cared for and he was well prepared. We would go again and highly recommend!

Had a great time, got on some tarpon, and sharks! Overall a great trip would definitely recommend going out with Captain Jim, he definitely made the whole trip entertaining and fun!

I told Capt. Jim that I wanted to fish for Tarpon. He did his job. We saw more then 50 Tarpon and were able to cast to at least half of them. We also go onto permit, snook and grouper.
Capt Jim is easy going but very determined to find fish.  If you fish with him, you will not be disappointed. I will fish with him again.
