Club Villas Pacifica: The Dog Fleet

Playa Flamingo
Playa Flamingo GU, Costa Rica

Flamingo, Costa Rica, is famous worldwide for its outstanding fishery. This is mainly due to the continental shelf that is located just 18 miles offshore, where water depth drops suddenly from 360 feet to 3,600 feet, reaching depths of 10,000 feet just a few miles to the west. This drop causes an upwelling of cold water, which is accompanied by all the nutrients needed to sustain a large and healthy fish population.

Club Villas Pacifica will help you make the most of the excellent fishing conditions the area has to offer. They have the largest fleet of Bertrams in Costa Rica, with three identical 31 ft vessels making up the ‘Dog Fleet’. The Wild Dog, Crazy Dog and Mad Dog are all equipped with top off the range safety and emergency equipment, as well as all the facilities you need for deep sea fishing, including a Pompanette fighting chair, outriggers and tuna tubes. Fishing gear includes Penn International and Finn-Nor reels, and all tackle fits IGFA’s world record requirements.

When fishing with Club Villas Pacifica you can expect to target a wide variety of fish including Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Cubera Snapper, Wahoo, Bonito and Roosterfish. A variety of fishing techniques are used on board, including bottom fishing and offshore trolling as well as inshore and nearshore angling.

The boats and crew at Club Villas Pacifica have acquired a wealth of knowledge about fishing around Flamingo. Fishing the area since the 1980s, they know the common patterns of the fish and have a high success rate. The company strongly believes in supporting the Costa Rican workforce, and the excellent local captains number among some of the best in the area. All the captains speak good English. At Club Villas Pacifica an emphasis is placed on preserving fishing resources and catch and release of all billfish is strongly encouraged.
