Talk about patient.  First we book the charter thats supposed to start at 0700, than we tell Capt that we are on a cruise ship and probably wont be on land until 0900.  Not a problem he says.  BTW Capt, as we are on a cruise ship we cannot bring any food or drinks with us.  Are you able to help, for a price of course?  Not a problem he says.

We arrive in port early, we are amongst the first off the ship and therefore were on the wharf just after 0800.  Ring the Capt, not a problem he says, will be there in 30min. 20min later, he and his good lady rock up at the wharf.

The charter was for 1 very good fisherman and 3 ‘fish feeders’; unfortunately the decent fisherman was sick so the Capt was stuck with 3 amateurs. Unfazed we start getting an education in the fish of the area; their habits; the geography and how to catch fish.  Which we did.  Okay, so we didn’t break any Snapper records and were disappointed we didn’t get to feed more of the less fortunate in the area (we couldn’t take any of the catch back onboard) but we had a fun day.  Even dodged the rain squall!

Oh, the snacks, his lady, whose birthday it was, made us sandwiches as well as grabbed us some drinks and snacks.  Tea and coffee were on offer as well.

As I said, could not have been more accommodating.  Highly recommended for a fun day of fishing.

My wife and I drove from Tutukaka to Paihia (1.5 hours) to take this trip departing at 7.30am with Peter Hatton. At the time, there were no short trips for this type of fishing that went with a minimum of two people, out of Tutukaka. This trip is well priced and goes with a minimum of 2 people.

We were the only two customers on the boat and he only takes 4-5 people max anyway so very relaxed! Therefore no issues with tangled lines etc.
We spent an hour catching bait fish which was fun then headed for snapper fishing spots.

We caught our limit bag in about 2.5 hours (14 snapper) and 11 of them were in the 40 - 50cm region! We kept more than we put back which isn’t something we were used to. The best fish were caught in about 43 metres of water. The huge 60cm or so fish we caught weighed around 8-9 lbs and we put him back after a photo (attached).

Captain Pete is a really knowledgeable and friendly guy and would recommend a trip with him in a heartbeat. We will book another trip with him on our next trip north. Thanks for the best day’s snapper fishing in my life Pete!

We had such a great time with Captain Pete. The pier we met at was easy to find. All fishing amenities were provided along with water, tea and coffee.

Started with fishing for our bait and ventured further out for snapper and kahwai. We fit comfortably for our party of 5.

We all caught a total of 26 fish and were able to bring home 2 kahwai and 6 snappers. Captain Pete very helpfully cleaned and filleted our fish. Made it home on time to enjoy sashimi for lunch.

Thank you Capt Pete. We’ll definitely be back for more when we next come to Paihia! We had a fantastic time. If you wanna great time fishing, go with Fish and Trips.

Highly recommend, for fishermen who’ve never been on a charter before, we were impressed. We (my son & I) loved that we didn’t do anything, no baiting our lines, no cutting our bait, just drop & wind.😍Now I know how my partner feels when she does it to us😩. Capt Pete you rock, as my moko would say “you’re the 💣” your conversations on board, you’re knowledge of the area & just your company made our day. Our experience was so much more than what we expected, way more, we weren’t expecting to get heaps of fish, but we got enough for the whanau. Tight lines Captain Pete, truly looking forward to our next charter with you.

Booked two trips with Peter for myself and my employees but they both couldn’t make it so ended up taking my brother in-law on the Saturday and my mother on the Sunday, had an amazing time with Peter and his wife, absolutely awesome experience highly recommend fish n Trips Charters 10 out of 10 all round awesome conversations awesome catch and many lessons will be booking again in January for my partner daughter and I.
