Good Time Charlie Sportfishing is located in Newport, Oregon and runs ocean fishing trips out of South Beach Marina for halibut, salmon, rockfish, lingcod, tuna, and crab.  The goal is to provide a fun and safe experience with memories to last a lifetime.  Whether this is your first trip on the ocean or you’re an old salty dog, we will work with you to provide the experience you’re looking for.

Capt. Joe will work hard make sure you have a fun day of fishing. He’s also happy to take families with little kids because he believes sharing experiences on the ocean at an early age fosters love of the ocean for a lifetime.  Good Time Charlie Sportfishing is happy to customize a family trip for you if you have small children.

Your fishing adventure starts on a 27’ Northwest boat with a full cabin that can safely take up to 6 anglers and keep everyone dry on the ride to the fishing grounds.  The boat has down riggers for trolling and power assist reels for deepwater halibut fishing.

All rods, reels, and terminal tackle are included in the price so you can focus on what really matters, having fun fishing. Please make sure to buy a valid fishing license ahead of time.

    Lingcod/Rockfish trips are a great way to get out on the water. You will target Lingcod, several species of Rockfish, and Cabezon when the season is open (7/1 - 12/31) Trips are usually back to the dock by about noon with coolers full of excellent table fare. Bottom fish trips are great for people who are new to ocean fishing since they are usually shorter in duration and closer to shore. This is a shared charter. We will take up to 6 guests total and need a minimum of 3 people to make trip happen.

Often you'll be 15 miles or more from the harbor, so be prepared for a long day on the water. Halibut like deep, cold water, so we have custom rods and top of the line electric powered reels to make the experience more enjoyable! Spring Halibut season is May 1 - June 30. Summer season runs from July - October on limited days depending on allotted quota. This is a shared charter with up to 6 guests.

For Captain Joe, there's something magical about being on the ocean; the experiences he's had on the water are some of the most memorable and vivid memories of his entire life. The ocean challenges, rewards, humbles, and teaches... sometimes all at the same time! He has spent his entire life on the water, not only fishing, but kayaking, snorkeling, racing sailboats, and more. He's fished all over the West Coast for numerous species and enjoyed the challenge of the hunt and especially the table fare of freshly-caught seafood. It’s Captain Joe's goal to provide a memorable experience in the ocean that is safe and fun. He enjoys meeting new people and sharing what he knows about catching fish off the coast. One of his favorite experiences taking people out into the ocean is seeing them land their first Salmon, Halibut, or whatever kind of fish they are chasing. The captain will work hard to get you on the fish and make sure you have a great time. After a really successful first year in operation in 2022, Captain Joe and Good Time Charlie Sportfishing are looking forward to an even better 2023 season on the Oregon Coast!

We don’t have age limits. As long as they can see over the gunwale kids can enjoy the trip. We like taking kids as young as 4-5 on nearshore rockfishing trips when weather is nice. Message me for more info and your specific situation.
