Stormy Petrel Charters
Stormy Petrel Charters welcomes you to Hatteras for a memorable day of fishing. Capt. Brian Patteson’s boat is the only fishing vessel in Hatteras that is certified by the USCG to legally carry more than 6 passengers for hire and that regularly offers private fishing charters. Bring the entire family along and enjoy a wonderful fishing adventure in North Carolina!
The Stormy Petrel II is a 56’ DMR walkaround, a stable boat with far more deck space than most charter fishing vessels. As such, you have a big advantage when it comes to bottom fishing and you can easily fish a dozen rods or more off one side of the boat. Her 16’ beam also means more room across the stern for trolling, which is nice when a school of Mahi comes up behind the boat. There’s also a spacious top deck where guests can take a break or go up and help spot fish. Captain Brian limits his offshore trips to 12 passengers and nearshore trips to 20 passengers so that he can provide plenty of space and minimize tangled lines.
The boat’s twin 500 HP Cummins QSC 8.3 liter diesel engines were installed in 2017 and they give a comfortable cruising speed of about 16 knots – plenty for Hatteras – with more power in reserve should you need it. These modern Tier 3 engines are remarkably quiet and free of smoke in addition to being most efficient.
The crew offers three types of trips. Its offshore trips are strictly 10-hour charters and go to the Gulf Stream. On these trips, both bottom fishing and surface trolling can be productive depending on the conditions. The nearshore trips go to the ocean waters just off the beach and/or Pamlico Sound in the vicinity of Hatteras, depending on the sea conditions. On most of these trips, you’ll be trolling small spoons for Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. The 2-hour inshore trips stay within the calm waters of Pamlico Sound and are also trolling trips.
Just bring your food and drinks, the crew has everything else covered.
