First and foremost - I really enjoyed my time with Tim.  He is a great guy and very personable.  I am from NC and fish the NC, SC, and Florida coastlines and estuaries extensively so was very excited for my first west coast trip.  Unfortunately there had been three or four previous days of high wind and it gave the fish lockjaw.  So we skunked.  I think he did everything he could and listening to the radio chatter everyone was in the same shape.  The sonar went out before we got to the bait barge and did not come back on till the end of the charter.  All charter captains who rely on a sonar to find fish should have a redundant system.  I know it is expensive but this is critical if you are charging people who expect to be put on fish.  I have a redundant system on my boat just because my water time is too valuable to risk.  From my east coast perspective the $1200 rate was very high.  It might be a California thing but around here that is double for the same type of trip and your fishing license, if needed, is included unlike California where you have buy your own.  The boat was in good shape and very clean.  It was a great ride with good engines and all of the tackle was as it should be.  Tim’s mate may be the hardest working mate I have ever seen.  He was a machine and was not about to give up the hunt for fish.  I look forward to fishing with Tim again.
