Wild Angler – New Zealand's Best Fly Fishing

Running angling trips out of Dunedin, Wild Angler Fly Fishing invites you to check out the local Otago, Southland and West Coast waters.

Casey specializes in custom one- to three-week trips to rivers like the legendary Mataura, whose lush Deleatidium hatches and wild free-rising browns make the river a dry-fly mecca; intimate Otago and Southland tributaries with big fish in small water; and classic backcountry rivers of the Southern Alps where trophy Rainbows and Browns sway in pools as clear as mountain air.

The price of your trip includes all the rods, reels, and terminal tackle you’ll need for a productive day on the water. Wading gear is extra.

There will be complimentary lunch for your convenience on full day trips, but feel free to bring your own drinks or snacks if you prefer. This is a children-friendly charter, so you’re welcome to bring your kids on for a fun fishing adventure.

Book your trip now and hit the water with Wild Angler Fly Fishing.

Fly fishing small streams in October and November is the creme-de-la-creme of the New Zealand fishing calendar. Large fish in intimate water is the height of adventure, and we often encounter hatches of Deletidium vernale mayflies and daytime caddis. Careful observation, stalking and an accurate first cast land some of the best fish of the year. Practice casting before the trip. The aim is to hit a pie plate at 40 feet over either shoulder, as well as bow and arrow and roll casts. A great tune-up.

Casey Cravens has explored New Zealand's rivers and lakes, across both the North and South Islands, for 26 years. He specialises in the lower South Island: Dunedin, Gore, Queenstown and Wanaka and the West Coast--the Mataura River, Otago and Southland streams, and the wilderness rivers of New Zealand's South Island in Fiordland, Mount Aspiring and wild West Coast. His fishing obsession dates back to a childhood in a hot dry land far, far away. For over 30 years he's fly fished for a wide range of species--from Texas black bass and redfish to Rocky Mountain cutthroats, to Quebec's sea-run brook trout and Atlantic salmon.
