Capt. John’s nimble 24 ft Sabre Cat power catamaran, which is powered by two 130 HP Honda engines and has a maximum cruising speed of 44 knots, can comfortably take 4 people on a diverse inshore or nearshore fishing trip in the Rockport area. As well as being a comfortable, stable and smooth offshore fishing vessel, the Sabre Cat can also run in just 22 inches of water, meaning you can fish a variety of waters in the same trip. The boat is equipped with high quality navigational gear, with Garmin GPS, radar and Fishfinder and a Cobra VHF radio, and has plenty of storage for bait in her livewell. There’s also a variety of electronics on board that can keep you entertained while traveling to the fishing grounds.

Capt. John always carries both offshore and inshore tackle on his trips in the Sabre Cat. This means that if, for any reason, the weather changes and it becomes too rough to fish in the gulf, there is no need to cut your trip short: you can still have an enjoyable fishing experience exploring the inshore areas around Rockport.

When he’s fishing offshore, Capt. John uses Okiaya rollers and rods, Penn reels and cannonball downriggers to make up his seven-pole trolling spread. Naturally, the bait he uses depends on the season and what the fish are liking that day, but he always carries a selection of different seasonal lures and three or four types of live or frozen bait.
A fishing trip with Capt. John could involve chasing down Trout, Redfish or Drum in the extensive inshore bay system that is shielded behind the barrier islands, or running offshore from the Port Aransas inlet to fish the moorings and rigs leading out into the Gulf, where you might find King Mackerel, Wahoo and Amberjack. An offshore trip will likely include exploring some of the roughly half dozen underwater structures in the area, where you can bottom fish for Snapper and Grouper.

I have always loved the water and fishing since age 8 and my first kayak prowling the back beaver ponds and lakes of north eastern Ct. in search of large mouth bass. This addiction has grown exponentially with age and now I live for the salt air and hook up with large pelagic species I currently posses a 100 ton masters license with towing

Chris and the Captain were awesome. Chris was very helpful and I cannot thank her enough. Very down to earth people made us feel like one of the crew. Unfortunately we were unable to catch anything worth keeping. Captain John tried his best even giving us extra time out but I guess the fish just were not biting

Unfortunately with low water conditions and a full moon all week the bite has been scarce and difficult to call. We had a great time with your family and I look forward to seeing you in the fall
