Within the year-round fishing destination of Key West lies the Backcountry, the area to the north of Great White Heron island and the Key West National Wildlife Refuge. Adventuring into this area is an experience that’s not to be missed: untouched for hundreds of years and surrounded by live mangrove islands, the scenic white sand flats that are only a few inches deep and calm narrow channels of the waterways offer a unique escape from the pressures of life on land.
Capt. John’s 17’ Maverick Master Angler offers a stable, dry and fast ride through the flats. Her new 115 HP four-stroke Yamaha gets you to the fishing ground fast, increasing your fishing time, while the boat’s design stops you getting bumped around and covered in spray on your way. A trip aboard the boat could include stalking Bonefish, battling Tarpon, casting to Barracudas or tackling any of the number of other species that inhabit the Florida Keys backcountry.
Capt. John is an experienced angler who has been guiding his customers to trophy fish since 1997. His personalized trips are tailored to what you want to catch and where you want to go, and you can rely on his ingenuity and ability to think outside the box to give you the best chance of finding fish. The captain will always come equipped with plans A, B and C as well as the appropriate bait and tackle to handle any situation, and he places an emphasis on his guests being the fishermen, letting them experience the thrill from beginning to end: first sight casting to the elusive fish, then watching him take your bait and feeling the power as you come tight and set the hook.
Thanks to the location in the flats you don’t need to worry about bringing a fishing license or feeling sea sick, and the variety of fish available makes for a very promising trip.
