Cabo San Lucas BS, Mexico

Based in the world famous sportfishing destination of Cabo San Lucas, Solmar VI Sportfishing Fleet provide a selection of boats for all your angling needs. They have been providing professional charter fishing services in the area since 2004 and are looking forward to welcoming you on board.

Their 28 ft vessel has everything you need for a sportfishing adventure. With two fighting chairs, a live bait tank and plenty of shade on deck, it allows you to experience the thrill of targeting big fish on a smaller budget. There is plenty of seating on board, both on deck and in the cabin, and an enclosed bathroom caters for the comfort of all anglers. The boat has recently been refreshed to keep it in prime working condition.

Solmar Sportfishing usually rig their cruisers to troll three or four lines in the water, while another line is in the live bait tank, hooked and ready to be used as soon as it is needed. They use high quality fishing tackle made up of Penn International reels and custom rods, with 40, 50 and 80 lb test line on board. They usually do not provide light tackle but you are more than welcome to bring your own if you prefer. The company mainly targets Billfish, frequently catching Striped, Blue and Black Marlin. However, they also target other local game fish such as Dorado, Tuna and Wahoo if the customer wishes.

Capt. Jesus Cota and his team at Solmar Sportfishing have a proven record of using the best techniques and local knowledge to catch big fish. They like to build long term relationships with their clients, and have many customers who return year after year.

This trip got off to a bad start when I used the head.  The toilet had no seat and the bathroom door did not lock.  This was extra unfortunate because my 20-year-old daughter was with us.  This was simply disrespectful and unacceptable.

The captain barely spoke english and was aloof.  The first mate spoke some English, and was reasonably friendly.

We had hoped to catch some big fish, but the water was too cold for them (this was nobody’s fault).  We ended up catching 2 small Spanish mackarel, one Jack, and six trigger fish.  This was not what I expected from the best fishing area in the world, but we at least caught our dinner. The three mackrel I hooked all bit through the leaders.  This made me think the leaders were sub standard.

On a positive note, we saw 3 whales, leaping sting rays, a sea lion that came right up to the back of the boat begging for our unused bait.
