The warm, tropical climate and the outstanding beauty of the Florida Keys attracts visitors from around the world every year. The area has a long and rich fishing tradition and is famous worldwide for its quality and diverse fishery. From February through April we’re there too, fly and spin fishing for Tarpon. Bonefish, Sharks, Permit, Jacks, Barracudas, Redfish, Snook and countless other species that thrive the shallow waters of the backcountry flats.
Sight fishing the flats is a combination of fishing and hunting as the angler stands on the bow, searching the shallow waters and ready to fire off a cast when a the quarry comes into sight. Although much of the fishing we do in the flats is in less than three feet of water, sometimes even less than a foot, the fish we target are often anything but ‘skinny’! We frequently encounter huge Tarpon, enormous Sharks, Barracuda and a host of other gamefish that lurk in the shallow water and offer anglers an incredibly unique and exciting fishing experience.
Our boat “Fish’n Fly” is a 17’ Maverick flats-skiff designed and rigged specifically for shallow water fishing. The boat is fast and quiet, equipped with a push pole and electric motor to allow us to sneak within casting range of even the spookiest fish. She can easily transport myself and up to two anglers to fishing areas inaccessible to many other boats.
In between fish bites our clients will see and learn about sea turtles, corals, sponges, jellyfish, the mangrove islands, marine plants and stunning bird life that all make up the unique and stunningly beautiful ecosystem of Florida’s shallow water backcountry.
We are ready and eager to take anglers of all ages and skill levels for full or half day trips fishing with spinning or fly tackle around the Florida Keys from February to April.
