Matthew Hunt Fishing - Portland

Lee Breakwater Road
Portland VI, Australia

From February to August Matthew Hunt Fishing Services run world class Tuna and Deep Sea Fishing Charters from Portland, Victoria. Charters are held aboard MV Regina, a 9.1 m fully surveyed Clayton Galant that was designed specifically for sportfishing in the area. The boat is perfectly suited for game fishing in all conditions and waters and is fully certified to run anywhere from the bay to offshore. With plenty of space both inside the comfortable cabin and up on deck, the boat is the perfect base for a group boat trip with friends.

Charters targeting the Southern Bluefin Tuna are Matthew Hunt Fishing Services’ most popular offering and always sell out fast. Not to be confused with its Atlantic cousin, the Southern Bluefin is one of the most rewarding game fish you could target. They have the ability to fight relentlessly and can grow to enormous sizes, with the Giant Bluefin or ‘Barrel’ being the ultimate fishing target for fishermen all over the world. The skills and experience of the skipper and crew aboard MV Regina make these Tuna charters stand out from others in the area.

Matthew Hunt Fishing Services are not all about Tuna, though. Far from it - they also run hugely popular deep sea fishing charters, which target a variety of game fish found further out towards the edge of the continental shelf. Depending on what you’re interested in catching and what the conditions are like on the day, you might target a variety of Shark species on these trips, including Mako, Bronze Whaler, Hammer Head, Blue Shark, Thresher Shark, School Shark, Gummy Shark and the Seven Giller. You could also be in with a chance of getting your hands on a Mahi-mahi, Swordfish or the stunning Albacore Tuna. If you’d prefer to target some of the delicious table fare found deep below the surface you can choose a bottom fishing charter targeting the Tassie Trumpeter, Morwong, Gummy, Knife Jaw, Big Snapper & Nannygai among many others in waters up to 160m deep.

My Father being Rex Hunt, I was always going to fish! But seeing people when they land a personal best or bag out is priceless to me and something I never tire of. I have 35 years of experience and bring that knowledge to every charter I run.
